I went to a local dealer asking about a factory service manual for my 2015 and he looked at me like I had 2 heads....why would anyone want that, only dealers are competent to work on these complicated vehicles, etc.... never did get a straight answer from him.
I found and looked on the TechAuthority site and it appears that you can buy a CD based Service Manual but not for a 2016 JK.
Does anyone have any of these CD's for earlier years?
Is the complete manual on them or is it merely a index to files sitting on a server somewhere so internet access is required to be useful?
Can you print out the electronic pages of the CD based manual to make your own printed copy?
Are wiring diagrams included?
I noticed that you can buy a 3-day pass to the TechAuthority site. Would this enable you to download the relevant service manual or it the site strictly 'read-only' or....?
The 2016 manual will probably be out near the end of the year. When I was looking for the 2015 version I did not see it listed until the latter part of last year. I choose not to buy after hearing that the CD just has links to a website.
I have the factory service literature on my 2008 Rubicon (I own two of them). All of the information is contained within the single DVD. It uses Windows Internet Explorer with some sort of Adobe add-on software. I have run it on every version of Windows since 2008 but was tricky to get it to run on Windows 10. It still works on 10. My understanding is that the newer model year is similar but likely doesn't use the Adobe add-on software. At the school where I work, the auto mechanic department uses the Alldata system. The documents produced by that system look identical to what I produce out of my DVD. When I am planning a complex repair, I produce paper printouts of the procedure(s) to follow. I also have the factory service manual for my '92 wrangler which is a book rather than DVD. The two manuals are arranged similarly according to the system in the vehicle being repaired. From experience, I can say that the procedure for heater core replacement, for instance, is sketchy in places and difficult to follow as not all fastening devices are clearly identified. In spite of that, I got the job done with no extra parts but I had to make a lot of notes on the print out and I used brown lunch bags to group and identify parts. I could not have done that job without the manual. On replacing a rear axle seal for instance it shows how to remove the axle but does not say that to replace the seal, the bearing has to be cut off. This you can find out from sources like utube.
The old site never had a username and password requirement as it was wide open and free to use. However it's possible that they decided to no longer allow free access.
