I just had a "professional" install done of an AVIC-8000 Radio in my 2015 Wrangler Unlimited. When I got the car back the sub wasn't working. They claim it is but it's barely doing anything when before it was booming in the car. Now the shop claims the AVIC can't power the factory sub.

Is this true and what workarounds are there? This is supposed to be a top of the line radio so I can't see how the rather ehh uconnect has the ability to do it but the Pioneer doesn't. Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

Crutchfield is a pretty good go to on the aftermarket stuff.

Installation Details
Installation Details for your 2014 Jeep Wrangler Sport Utility with Alpine audio system
To install this item, you'll have to modify your vehicle.
The dash kit may interfere with some stereos that have fold-down faces. You may have to modify the kit or fabricate a spacer.
When you replace the factory radio, the factory navigation system won't work anymore.
When you replace the factory radio, you'll lose factory SIRIUS satellite radio capability.
When you replace the factory radio, you'll lose the factory AUX input connection.
When you replace the factory radio, you'll lose the factory USB input connection.
You'll have to modify your vehicle's sub-dash to install a new car stereo.

Please Note: Your vehicle is equipped with a factory sound system that requires a special adapter to install a new car stereo. We strongly recommend that you purchase one of these adapters.
PAC RP4-CH11 Wiring Interface Connect a new car stereo and retain factory steering wheel audio controls, entertainment system, and amp in select 2004-up Chrysler models $149.99† $74.99
When you use the adapter with the factory amplifier, you'll lose front-to-rear fade control.
The wiring interface retains your vehicle's steering wheel audio controls, entertainment system, and the factory amplifier. It also provides data bus outputs such as retained accessory power, vehicle speed sensor, illumination, reverse trigger, and parking brake. This interface does not retain Uconnect.
iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR Interface Module Connect a new stereo and retain the steering wheel audio controls and factory amps in select 2006-up Ford, GM, Chrysler, and VW vehicles $149.99† $74.99
The harness connects the ADS-MRR module to your vehicle.
The wiring interface retains the factory amplifier. It also retains Uconnect and the digital fader when used with an iDatalink-compatible car stereo. You'll program the interface online.
PAC C2R-CHY4 Wiring Interface Connect a new car stereo and retain the factory amplifier in select 2004-up Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Mitsubishi, and Volkswagen vehicles $99.99† $49.99
When you use the adapter with the factory amplifier, you'll lose front-to-rear fade control.

Did you ever get this figured out?

I would agree that the AVIC-8000 wouldn't be able to power the sub, but that doesn't explain the fact that the sub would have had an amp somewhere in the car powering it - either a shop oversight or I wouldn't be going back to that shop.

Also, this is really a stupid question, but if you go into Settings - Audio, is the Subwoofer setting set to on or off?

I installed the same deck, but had an after market sub and amp and was able to make it work just fine.

I used the PAC adapter and my sub works. It also allows me to adjust the volume in the 8000 settings page (audio/speaker levels). That all said, after having that HU for awhile, I'm gutting it all and replacing amp with a 5 channel and new speakers. The sub will never be strong with the stock "premium" and you'll never get all the sound you want from the NEX with it. Also, the PAC adapter did take away my fade and uconnect. I bought the idatalink, but I think it's all a waste now that I want to bypass stock amp.
