Looking for ball joints for my 2012 JJKU..just put a 3.5" lift with just 33's ...anyone here of synergy??? I wanted to do Teraflex but I heard you have to modify the ridge of the axle so I am kinda shying away on them..
Am looking for replacement BJ's now and came upon this old thread. For an update on Synergy BJ's = they began wearing about 3 months ago (for a life of about a year) and only 11K miles. Not real happy with their track record, so will be looking at NAPA Gold or Moog to get an apples type comparison.
I sure wish SteerSmarts (AKA Yeti) would make ball joints...I'd buy them in a FLASH!
I have a set of synergy I will sell you. Never out of the box. All 4 of them. I am going to just get Dynatrac or something in whatever custom axle I buy instead. The synergy are supposed to be better than stock though, yes. PM me or something if interested.
I felt the same as you, but I wanted the early design Dynatrac ball joints so I didn't have a choice. Glad I went ahead and administered the small amount of di-grinder love required as it took no more than an additional 15 minutes per side and most of that time was spent installing and removing the axle assembly to check for clearance.
Synergy are nice and so are the Teraflex. The TF's will not work no the 2013 and newer though. The Synergy will. The Dynatracs are nice but they get expensive.
I run the Synergy in our JKU. I run a 40" tire and have almost 30K on them without any issues.
Most Synergy parts you can pick up in San Luis at Poly Performance. You probably already know that, but just in case They are on my way home, it's both a good thing and bad, lol. If you call and talk to Logan, he can help.
Has anyone tried Dana Spicer ball joints? I know that they make very good u-joints. A set of the Spicer ball joints cost $63 on Amazon and they have very good reviews there.
I went with moog.
My stock ball joints only lasted 12,000 miles (not a catastrophic failure, but passenger side lower was loose). So far so good.
I wanted dynatrac prosteers, but my shop talked me out of it. Something about them being to stiff, and causing touchy steering. And it saved me a lot of money!
Just installed Dynatrac ball joints on Friday. Steering is fine, zero issues. Nothing wrong with oe or oe equivalent as long as you expect the same service life. Start having to replace every 12k and labor adds up fast.
I have 27,000 miles on my Synergy ball joints and I had them installed on11/2014. The ball joints are still good and I've been running 315/70/17 the entire time. I have read several postings in the past year or so about the poor quality of Synergy's ball joints. I'm not sure if there was a QC issue or not, and if so has it been resolved. I think there are good suggestions listed in this thread for people looking for new ball joints.
I have 104,000 miles on the factory stock ball joints on my 2013 JKU. I checked the ball joints recently and everything was still tight. I have 33" tires and I do not do any hardcore off roading. Mopar makes a greasable heavy duty ball joint that I will install when mine finally do need replacing.
I have Teraflex ball joints. They did fit without having to modify the front drive shaft ears, from what I hear sometimes they fit and sometimes you have to remove a little from the drive shaft ears. They are definitely grease-able. I am not sure they are re-buildable. To my knowledge they are not.
Yeah I looked at my Teraflex again.. They are only adjustable from what I can tell. Basically when they begin to wear and loosen up you can increase the preload and take any slop out of them, so they function like new again.
Anyone put serious mileage on a set of rare parts BJs yet?
