Barricade Enhanced Rubi Rails Install: 2 Door JK

So I put the Barricade Enhanced Rock Rails on after work. They look great and I have no regrets about buying them and saving the cash compared to the Mopar enhanced rails. That said, a couple of critiques:

They are certainly heavy and solid. The finish was a bit scuffed up from shipping and unless they change how the rails are packaged, I don't know how they would arrive without scuffs here and there from the ups crew moving the box around.

My second peeve is that the install took much longer than it should have. The first issue I ran in to was the factory holes in the pinch weld are larger than the washer supplied to fasten the rails to the weld stud through the pinch weld. I have a bunch if hardware in my shop so it wasnt a major problem but still shouldn't be like that. I ended up using 8 1/4 inch flat stainless washers instead of the smaller washers included with the kit. The hardware that attaches to the pre-threaded supports under my Wrangler worked fine (2 bolts, a lock washer and a fender washer on each side). Anyway, I'd have 8 new stainless washers on hand if you are going to put these on for those studs that go through the pinch weld unless they ship updated hardware.

My biggest issue, and it really was just a quality control issue on my set I would imagine, was one of the weld studs on the rails was not threaded properly. On the end, the threads were jammed with metal and higher up there were no threads at all. Again, I have a lot of stuff in my shop and I ended up taking the passenger side step off (I didn't notice until I had put the rail on loosely), re-threaded the stud myself and re-installed. Probably too anal, I know, but I wanted every piece of hardware on right.

So, what should have been a 20 - 30 minute project took me over an hour when all was said and done. Again though, no regrets. I think they look great. I'll attach a couple of pics too.

How much do they extend into the rear wheel well?

Not at all. They actually stop a bit short of the pinch weld back there - you can see that pinch weld angle up if you look close. Here's the best pic I could get - it looks like it extends in there a hair but it doesn't.

That is excellent to see I have a set of the 4-door ones coming. I don't know why mopar makes them so long.

I think you'll be happy. I am. The price was right and they are stout for sure. I think you'll need 4 more stainless washers for the 4 door version if you run in to the same issues with the weld studs and holes in the pinch welds. Post some pics when you get them and let me know if you have any threading issues as I did. I'm curious about that.

Glad you like them. I was going to wait for them but they said not until late August so I sprung for the OEM ones. Straight forward install and proper hardware. Even though they ran me more, I have no regrets. Use yours well!

Where did you find these I stock? Ryan for extreme terrain has stated they won't be available for quite a while?

They are in stock now. I ordered them Tuesday and they arrived today. PM Ryan directly and ask him. That's what I did at least.

I cancelled my preorder from ET in June because they weren't available until late August. Well, I received an email the other day that my rails were shipping from ET. Called them up not to pleased (had already purchased OEM ones) and they said it was a computer glitch. They were going to reroute the shipment and credit me back. I believe that they may get some from Barricade unannounced, and work their way down the preorder list. They told my son his bumpers wouldn't be in for some time. We then got an email saying they were shipping and he got them early.

Yeah, unless you already received them from somewhere else.

It's a shame you had those hardware issues. I'm going to pass your feedback on to Barricade. They look great on your Jeep though! Put them to good use.

We did get a "surprise" shipment early. We're working on our communication with Barricade to avoid this in the future. But yes, we have them in stock now! PM me if you'd like a quote!

I hate that you had to deal with these issues. Like I said to ESP, we're working on our communication with Barricade so we don't get anymore "surprise" shipments and we can get you guys accurate stocking and shipping dates. We'll continue to improve!

Hmm, seems a good option to the Mopar enhanced rails, but I won't order these until it's confirmed they come with the right hardware/washers as I have a '14 like OP. Also, I'd have to hear of some others installing them to know the mis-threading was just a one-off fluke (as I don't have tools to rethread, nor would I want to mess with that).

D Man - I'd guess the threading was an anomoly. The other 7 were fine, it was just that one that had the issue. I wouldn't let the hardware stop you. Go to any hardware store and buy a handful of 1/4" stainless flat washers. Probably would cost you a couple of bucks if that. I don't disagree with the threading issue being more than a minor headache. I'm curious to see if mine was just a one in a thousand or if others have the same problem.

It's just sad that spending your hard earned money and expecting a new product to be, well, what it should be, that consumers then have to go out and piece the hardware that should have been provided to begin with. We have lowered the bar IMHO. I ordered Barricade front and rear bumpers for my sons TJ. They came with no instuctions and way more hardware then what was necessary for install. I had to call ET numerous times and they had to go check out one of their shop vehicles with Barricade bumpers on to figure out the install for me. ET was very helpful.

Well I received my barricade enhanced rails today they are the JKU version and while the box definitely took a beating they are in excellent shape and I'm very impressed with the fit and finish so far have not installed them but they look good and my biggest concern has been alleviated there are two inches shorter then the mopar rubicon rails so when I go to larger tires they won't be an issue, big plus in my book anyways here's a picture of them in the box I will put up a full review in the next few days.

They look a little shinier that the Mopar Enhanced rub rails. I was hoping for a really matte finish. Could just be the pics though.

Got mine sitting in the garage and ready to install later today... Hoping for a trouble-free easy install! Mine arrived with the box beat up and open at one end as well so hopefully there is no damage and all installation hardware is present.

They have the same finish as the factory rubicon rails definitely not glossy.

Did you need to use the mounting clip things for installation on your 2 door JK??? I am in the process of installing now and it looks as though these are not necessary on my 2014 2 door....

No - I didn't need those on my '14. Maybe for the older style or the JKU and they just include them anyway. How did the rest of the install go? Pics? :-)

Thanks... Got the install done, quality seems to be a bit sketchy (welds, powder coatied over threaded studs). Also mine were a bit scuffed up from shipping (due to poor packaging). But they're on now and look pretty decent.

Thanks for your help!

Looks great! We will see how they hold up I guess. I didn't have powder coating in any threads, I think that would have pissed me off more having to chase all those out with a die rather than just rethreading the one like I had to. Oh well. $320 - trade off. The welds were about what I expected, low expectations maybe. Lol. :-)

Oh - did the included washers work for you or were they undersized for the pinch weld?

Looked as if they were gonna be fine when I was initially fitting them on, but once I began tightening down the bolts the washers and bolts began pulling through the pinch seam holes.... Off to the hardware store I went for the washers you suggested and then completed te install.

Thank you guys for all the feedback! I'm working with Barricade to get the hardware issue, as well as the packaging issue fixed up. Keep the feedback coming! The rails look great installed!

Those look good. Can you please take a measurement of how far out the tubed part sticks? I want to see of they will work as steps.

Guess it wasn't just mine then. Hopefully they will update the hardware. They look great tho!
