Hey guys
Throwing this out to the community to see if anyone has replaced the funky battery terminals on the newer JK's.
Mine are to the point of becoming loose and I know what happens when they go loose while driving. dash lights go all crazy.
I have done a search and found some battery terminal caps that are placed on the post, they you open the terminal as far as you can go and install the cable back to the battery. I don't really like those.
I found another post where one of you guys took the stock one, took them all apart and used it that way, but it was just pictures of them all taken apart.
If I have to buy a crimper and new cable ends I'll go that route but prefer not to for a one off use.
Pictures would be helpful or a link. just looking for what you guys have done.
Either replace as suggested or go to lowes and grab a small length of copper tubing just small enough to not fit over terminal. Then cut it length ways and slip over terminal and reattach. It will be a pretty good conductor. Best to replace though.
Yeah those are good up to 2011 but may be the best solution anyway, if the new cables are integrated into the crappy clamps it would be needful to cut them off anyway and install new ends.
The cables are integrated into the OEM battery terminals but you can bust them apart and cut the OEM terminals into a tab with a hole and use whatever battery terminal you like. All I used is tin snips.
Remove all the nuts off the terminals.
Remove the terminal from the battery.
Bend the tabs (underneath) that hold the bolt posts in place and remove the bolts.
I used these bolt holes on each cable and cut the OEM terminals up until I had a tab on each cable with a bolt hole in it. I just cut it square and you can almost see that in the pic above.
I should have taken pics but once you start taking apart the OEM terminals you will see what I mean. I didn't want to have to re-crimp the cables to any aftermarket terminal as the factory crimp looked so clean.
They are tapered, take a large socket and mallet, gently tap down on them until they're firmly seated to the bottom of the post. They should tighten right up then.

what did you end up doing I’m in same boat. Need my ends to fit 3/8 post and if I do the same as other guy pic my smaller wires don’t look big enough to drill the 3/8 hole in it?
