Blacked out antenna mod

Here are pics of my attempts to black out the antenna on my black '11 JKU. Used 1/8" shrink wrap tubing on the mast (after removing the ball at the top). Bottom 4" had to be a little bigger shrink tubing because of the increasing mast size towards the base. I left the flattened sides of the base uncovered to allow use of a wrench to tighten/remove. I think the base required 1/2" shrink wrap tubing. I also added a small rubber vacuum cap to the tip for safety and glued it with 3M weatherstripping adhesive. 15 minutes and looks much better than the shiny silver stock antenna.

I DID that too when I first got my JK. I painted it but the paint peeled and the antenna was getting caught on branches alot. Went and got a 10" little rubber one and solved all problems.

And yes yours looks better now, that silver is just dumb. They should all be black from the factory

Looks great! If I hadn't just ordered a new antenna I would go that exact route.

It looks great! Does covering the antenna play a part in its functioning?
If you only have a Jeep, every problem appears as a rock. I like rocks.

nice looks good, are you going to black out that chrome at the bottem of the antenna too? and i was also wondering about the covering messing with the antenna and its functioning ability?

No, covering the antenna with a small piece of rubber does not affect its performance. I plan on leaving the slotted portion on the base exposed. I do have a few things I plan on leaving silver: wheels, door key holes. Other than that, all is black. I think a little silver/aluminum looks better than ALL black.
