Brand new jk with teraflex lift.... What would you do.

Have 2 month old JKU Auto. added teraflex 2.5 with springs, teraflex shocks, trackbar, and front lower adjustable control arms.

Ride is decent, EXCEPT things like expansion joints and drops like man hole covers are pretty jarring.

33 duratracs at 32psi so those are dialed in pretty good.

NOTE i will do some wheeling. mud dirt, bush, MILD rocks.

Tell me what you do. PICK ONE NUMBER and one LETTER and explain.

1. Leave it alone (don't chase my tail) because its a jeep and the kit is solid.

2. Add geometry correction in ADDITION to teraflex adj control arms already installed

3. Take off adj trackbar (it wears out 15k-20k miles and winds up needing to be rebuilt and ADD geometry correction bracket with stock arms

4. Install the fairly new teraflex SPORT control arms that are not adjustable but build for 2.5 lift and have factory chrysler joint for longevity

----------------------
A. Keep the teraflex shocks

B. Replace shocks with adj RANCHO 9000xl

C. Use other shock. specify. i'm afraid most others will be even FIRMER.

Short of getting some plain old twin tube Monroe's or stock Sahara shocks with extensions I will second KJeeper's 1B recommendation. Just dial the compression damping down to -2.

This seems to be a trend. It seems like a lot of folks want to keep their cake and eat it too. It's like putting on a 4" lift with 37" tires and complaining about MPG. :D

Try 30 in the duratracs.
My set up is not exactly yours but has many components. I went for factory ca's and the drop bracket, I also have rancho 9000xl's set to 3 now for the road.

I have no complaints on my ride.

I have the Teraflex 2.5 lift with Rancho geometry correction brackets and Rancho RS9000s on my '14 JKU, still running stock tires on stock wheels. Ride is firmer than stock and I have my shocks set on 0. I especially notice it on speed bumps or expansion joints, otherwise it is just firmer and less body roll.

Definitely 1 and B for me as well.

At 2.5 the geo brackets work, but they aren't nearly as big of an improvement as they are at 3.5. And you already have the "better" arms, no need to drop back to the sport arms.

I've got the teraflex 2.5" coil lift and Bilstein 5100 shocks. Previously I was using a spacer lift with the same shocks.

The teraflex coils are very firm compared to the stock coils and spacers. I'm not sure how much of a difference you will notice with different shocks.

is it the SPRINGS?

after the rancho xl upgrade i just ordered, am i going to realize its the springs and feel like i wasted my time with the rancho swap out?

If it is the springs, is it worth $750 to swap the springs to a different brand if i really want a near factory feel of pot hole absorption?

If you think the springs are worth swapping on the brand new lift kit, tell me what springs would be softer.

THanks a lot guys.

kjeeper10, and gang. thanks. i think you're right. hopefully the shocks will add some modest improvement. i don't want to go "backwards" with spacers so i think i'll throw on the ranchos and live with the outcome.

I will report back with my opinion after they are on.

I think you're right. my only other spring option would lean towards the old man emu that have a softer spring rating, but i agree i'll probably be throwing money away for modest improvement, if that.

ranchos and old man emu

Yeah, just ordered them on 4wd.com.

I love amazon PRIME but now that they charge tax i have to look around.

ANYONE know if the 29xl and 30xl size ranchos would fit if i did something stupid and swapped the teraflex springs for the 2" OME. i'm thinking they may be a little to large for the slightly smaller spring.

tx guys

Shocks and bump stop relationship is more critical than springs. The 29's will probably need exhaust spacers if you have a 3.6.

Got the RANCHOS

First, ONE POINT OF FRUSTRATION WITH RANCHO. A nut was missing and i called them and i cannot get a nut. it is backordered for weeks. Extremely pathetic. Teraflex service is much better.

Now onto the shocks....

set on 5. A LOT SOFTER than the teraflex shocks. A LOT CLOSER to stock.
if anything, since i was on the teraflex for a month, they feel too soft.

I will ride them at 5 for a while and get used to them.

ANYBODY who thinks the teraflex 2.5 lift with coils is stiff, i highly recommend these adjustable rancho 9000 shocks.

QUESTIONS>
1. Is it OK if i do not use the red rubber boot on the front shocks?
2. Can i FLUID-FILM the entire shock or should i not get the slider covered?
3. WIERD QUESTION -> on the PASSENGER FRONT the top of the shock is extremely tight and hard to get the bolt on/off. is that typical for that side/top shock. very annoying to work with.

You need to Dremel some of the plastic away.
That will make getting to the bolt much easier.

What nut are you missing? Take the shock to a hardware store match it up.
Yes you can Fluid film the whole shock.
Your choice on the boots but I prefer not to use them.
