Unhappy Broken Jeep update

So today i was at the service station,... i dont even know where to begin. They replaced my starter, warranty covered it. But it looks like i might have to replace the clutch myself. They drained some oil from the tranny, and it doesn't look good. The oil (which supposed to be red) is gray color, which means that the water got inside the tranny. They said that most likely the tranny is full of water and sand, and warranty will not cover it. Without opening it, it looks like i will need a new clutch and thrust-bearing. I spoke with service manager at my dealership (where i got the car), and he said that if i can bring the car to him, he will try to get warranty to cover the repairs.

Does anyone have any info on how to replace the clutch in 07-08 JK ? Also where can i get the clutch kit for it?

I spoke with a friend of mine, and he said that he changed the clutch on his 2002 TJ, and will try to help me best he can.

Please help if you got any info on how to change it.

I'd take it to the dealer and rub thier nose on the "Trail Rated" Badge. That seems like an awfull lot of damage for a little wheeling.......I don't remember you getting into specifics... But a brand New Jeep?

Just got off the phone with service manager at the dealership where i bought the Jeep, and he said that if i can get the car to him, he will try to make warranty cover for it.

Still can't find the clutch kit for it. Everyone tells me that they don't have it, and i can only get it from dealer.

It states right in the manual the Wrangler is rated for crossing up to 20 inches of water. So if you didn't go over 20 inches deep they should cover any problems except the clutch itself. Clutches are a wear item. And I don't understand how water got inside the transmission? Shouldn't the transmission be sealed?? That sounds like a factory defect to me.

Well, i did go over 20 inches, i had water covering half of my headlight, before backing up a bit. =) I didn't tell that to service guy for obvious reasons, i just said that got stuck in mud while camping, and the water was covering about half of my wheel.

Clutch is covered for 1year or 12000 miles, whichever occurs first.

i must be reading wrong but did you say the dealership would cover it? or are you talking just the tranny? If so, just flatbed it or tow it over tot he other guy since that will be a hell of a lot cheaper than having to pay out of pocket for all repairs.

With 32 inch tires ya should be able to ford 30 inches of water.....SLOWLY......

I work at a Jeep dealer as a tech .......the problem with warrentying trannys on such a new vehicle is that Chrysler WILL want it back to study why it failed......If its obvious customer abuse(only term I can use not a swing at ya) then the dealer will be on the hook for the cost and the labor for the repair.......up to the middle of the headlights is a lil deeper than it is designed for.......30 Inches on mine is about 6 inches from the bottom of the door....Ive had mine near this deep on several occasions with no adverse affect..... clutch replacement is resonably strait forward.....be aware that modern hydralic clutches require the flywheel to be replaced with the new clutch assembly.....they cannot be turned or the clearences get screwed up and it wont work properly.......any competant mechanic can do the clutch work.....its a mornings worth of work at worst........g

Thanks for the info. If dealer is not going to cover the repair, i wanted to do it myself with a friend who did it on his 02TJ.

Another question for you, i have 08 JK-X with 255/75/17 tires which are more or less 32" tires. If i get 35" tires, would i have to change any suspension components like lift kit or steering?

Ive seen 35s done with 2.5 Teraflex Budget boost..on 4.5 backspaced wheels..he claims no problems.....Im puttin a 2 inch BB on mine in the mornin.....then Im savin up for some tires and wheels.....My HVAC unit died at my house which sucked 3700 bucks outta the general fund so my dreams of tires and wheels went south.....guess the BFG MTs will have ta do for awhile

generally 3 inches is the norm for 35s on the JK.......g

this is not a jab but you are very lucky that the only thing you have to worry about is the transmission as you could have locked the motor up in that deep of water
