Checked the area behind the air damper and found no filters in my '11 Sport S (produced in Feb '11).
Checked the local autoparts stores.... The prices varied $20 for the chinese filters to $50 at the dealer for OEM. The dealership had them, but ALL of the autoparts stores said that they were a special order item (5-7 days out). O"Reillys wanted $24.99 plus tax plus shipping for a total of $38.
Went online to RockAuto; they had them for $17.00 plus $5 shipping.
Ordered a set of (2) Wix 24302 for the above price.

So, If I opt for the standard climate control (I prefer dials) will I be able to just drop in a filter or do I need to get automatic climate control just to have the ability to drop in a filter?

Just plop the filters in your base or "S" and viola', you have filtered cabin air! Cool, eh?

The filter assembly/cage is the same on all of them. If you got the auto climate, the filters come installed from the factory. If you get standard climate, the cage is empty and you can install the filters yourself following the video in this thread.

Just wondering:

Why two separate filters? Couldn't I just get one filter (correct size) which covers that whole area? Or are there two separate slots for the filters to lay in? Or is there no such one piece filter made...?

Great Post I'll be placing an order for filters ASAP since my '12 JK Rubi didn't come with filters at all.........

Nope, a no can do with a single filter. Take a look see at the carrier and access to it and you will understand why.

Your 12 should have them as mine does but to turn the system on you have to press the fan button so the green light comes on and then the drum will roll down and the air will be filtered ... But you have to press the button all the time to filter the air, by adding the other two it won't matter as the air will be filtered all the time ..
Pull the glove box out and look at the the drum and you will see the filters up there, then start it and press the button and when the green light comes on you will see the drum roll down ...

Paul, not all JK's come with the 2 cabin air filter cartridges themselves. YES, all JK's have the side by side cradle for the 2 cabin air filters but most JK's come without the 2 cartridge filters. Only JK's with the optional Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) system have the 2 cartridge air filters installed at the factory.

Also, unless I'm just not understanding what you are saying, I believe, the cabin air filters / 2 in the side by side carrier do filter allowed (when you are not using recirc) incoming air all the time as all incoming air passes through the cradle.

Sweet write up, was wondering about this a long time now. And the video and all. You people are great. Now I have to go check behind the glove box. Who knows what I'll find there...
