I have heard enough good about the benefits of going to Royal Purple ATF so I am making the move. The question is should I run it for a while then dump and refill to clear out as much as the Mopar ATF +4 or am I over thinking this?

Probably over thinking it, Most oils blend together pretty well. I would just run it and be happy :) But thats me (and thats what I did only with amsoil)

I would only use ATF+4 in a Chrysler product calling for ATF+4. I wouldn't chance using RP, or any other fluid that is not specifically labeled ATF+4. BTW ATF+4 is a synthetic based fluid, and a very good product.

Some automatic trans can be picky about the fluid they use. I know that most trans builders for the tranny in my truck recomend the stock fluid and not synthetics. I would take an actual rebuilders word over all others. I don't know if we have any techs with that knowledge on this site.

RP is really nothing special when it comes to synthetics if you do some reading but they do charge a premium price. I would use any other synthetic and save some money if it were me.

From my 35 plus year auto experience this is good advice. I actually ruined a transmission in my 94 grand Cherokee with synthetic ATF. I drained it regularly and ran at the time conventional fluid and then swapped at 100k to synthetic and it was done in less that 10k more miles. ATF4 fluid from a major manufacture will be more than adequate imo.

If Royal Purple says their oil meets or exceeds ATF+4 specs, or if the bottle says "Chrysler approved" for ATF+4 applications, there is no reason why you can't run it. And I don't think there is any reason to just flush the first change. Just stick with it at each change and eventually the torque converter portion will be diluted out.

Do you have any reason to think RP is better than ATF+4?

I am just going off all the reviews I have read.
