Check engine light

I have a 2013 JK four-door sport and wanted to know if a check engine light is just a fuel cap issue? If all of my exhaust oil and water levels are fine? The dealer told me over the phone that if the light is not blinking it is not a big deal. I plan to take it in for the appointment and leave it but I wanted to know if anyone has had similar experience please.

It could be the fuel cap, but without engine codes it's hard to tell. You can get them from your dash by turning the key to where the dash lights up but doesn't start, then turn it off and back on again. Then the dash should give you the trouble code. There are tons of places to find those online. A couple of threads here do.

You have to cycle the key on and off one more time (three in total) to get the code.

I'm pretty sure the display will tell you Gas Cap if the gas cap is loose. Any bets on oil pump?

If the Jeep is like any other car, the blinking light would mean that there is more than one fault code logged. If the turning off and on doesnt work for you, autozone scans the coes for free if you need it done.

if you do the key cycle right, it will say -done- even if there are no codes. Check youtube for examples.
