It is normal for the clutch to chatter while in neutral? When I push the clutch in the noise goes away. It's loud outside of the jeep and can be heard through the gear shift. Also the engagement is rougher than other clutches I have had even heavy duty clutches for high hp applications. I currently have 4.5k miles on it.
It's your throw out bearing. I had mine replaced at 6k miles and the new one started doing it again at 9k. The chatter really just seems to be normal with this crappy clutch. At 14k now on the same bearing and it's about to go out on me completely though, horribly chatters and skips when I first start the vehicle. About to just get a whole new center force clutch.
I agree with the throwout bearing. Have it taken care of under warranty. My 10 6spd. is quiet, except for the normal sounds when you shift, and it has the same trans. & clutch as the 15 JK. It's not normal.
You would figure after all of these years they could get this right. My tj never did this. I've been eyeing that clutch as well. I'm wondering how their fly wheel would change the feel of the vehicle.
My Jeep's been chattering since 600 miles, and an additional 20,000 miles later it's still doing it. All I can say is that I hate Chrysler, and that if wasn't for the Wrangler these losers would never get a single stinking penny of my money.
Does yours feel slightly jumpy at low speed engagement? I've also noticed a clutch burn smell if I take it to 4k and sifting when using a short ramp for the freeway
My 2015 does it too. But its weird because sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn't. I think temperature plays a role. Also if my a/c is on its is way more noticeable. WEIRD.
I mean if the OEM throw out bearing sucks its gonna do it when they replace with another OEM at the dealer. I wonder if I take an aftermarket they will install it instead lol. Doubt it
yeah I can see the word chatter is the incorrect description. I dropped it off at the dealer a few hours ago. The tech wasn't there yet. I showed the counter guy the symptom I was describing. He used the word flutter. Hopefully they can adjust something or replace it. Whatever makes the noise go away I will be happy. I just can't accept the answer of that's how it is. I've been driving manuals for nearly 20 years never had one sound like that. I work with guys who have manual JKs theirs do not sound like that either. Thanks for the responses
I just got my jeep back about a week ago 12000 miles new clutch TOB and pilot bearing, it's been rattling since about 2500 miles, now a week back from the dealer it's doing it again. I'm thinking about grabing a national TOB and seeing if thell warranty the labor
So, has anyone changed the clutch and whatnot to an aftermarket one yet? Has it fixed anything? Seems like the TOB is hit and miss if you get it fixed under warranty.
