Coolant color

So this is the color of my coolant. My jk is a 2013 and is speced for OAT.

Attachment 595689

This is after 8000 miles mind you. Now i did have my jeep topped off at the dealer after having the radiator cap replaced. (Rad hose was collapsing so replaced 18lb with 17lb) Im just hoping they topped it off with the OAT stuff because this looks like the product of mixing orange with purple lol. Called the dealer and they offered to take a look at it but the weather is nasty right now. Went to the closer dealer (they're shady and will never touch my jeep) just to look at the reservoir on a 14 and it was the same exact color. What say ye jeep brethren?

...i'd be fer thinkin you might have a problem...certainly worth a thorough investigation!

...i just don't trust anybody in a shop/dealer...

...i have seen the wrong fluid/part installed because the right one was 10 steps further to get to...i have caught my people doing it!

...i have 6k on my '13, and mine is very purple!

Thats my thing. Dont trust these dealers man. And its always the same tech that works on my jeep and he always looks so happy to be at work. Im sure he would have no problem putting in the wrong stuff.

The OAT in my 2013 is purple, so it looks like they put the wrong coolant in yours....

I just flushed out my 09, had orange in it, since I was putting new in it, I went to Prestone dex-cool which is the GM version of OAT. I can buy that in any store and only costs about 16.00 as opposed to 60.00 at dealership.

Well i know i can pick up aftermarket stuff cheap but theres no way im doing a full flush when its 15* outside and when they were the ones that topped it off with the wrong stuff. Im just pissed off there gonna have to pull hoses and the thermostat. Well if they do a real flush anyways. Dont know how thorough they are gonna get. I just dont have any air in my lines and i know i probably will after a full flush.

Check both tech and general when you need help, they still have a ton of tech in the general forum too. Just a heads up.

I had my water pump replaced a few months ago and my coolant isn't that real purple color like in the link. Will it stay that color ?

Well I would and I would ask that they flush it again and do it right. We get sub par workmanship when we encourage it by just accepting it. Just my two cents.

And yes the coolant stays that color.

Great. Last oil change maybe 3 months ago, tech mentioned he topped my coolant off as it was low ('13) -- no symptoms of anything to date. Better head down and take a look at this.

See the link I left above, I have photos showing the same thing. Mine looks very orange from looking in, but it's purple when I shine the light through the side of the res.

The chart on the link below may be worth a read. We can't judge a coolant solely by color. http://www.eetcorp.com/antifreeze/Coolants_matrix.pdf

That's interesting. I haven't checked newer built Jeeps, but I'm sure someone will chime in.

Mine was born in Oct 2012 as a 2013.

My understanding ALL 2013 models should have the purple stuff.

Mine is a 2013 JKU

I just checked my invoice as I had the thermostat housing replaced due to a crack and they used part number: p/n 68163848AA (concentrate)

The new Mopar Antifreeze/Coolant 10-year/150,000 mile formula is purple and these are the part numbers for the 2013+ vehicles:

p/n 68163848AA (concentrate) / p/n 68163849AA (50/50 mixture)

Hope this helps.

I thought about it more. Did you check it by pulling fluid out, or just looking in the res tank? Mine looks orange in the tank when looking in, but shining a light through the tank shows its purple - see my link above, I have photos in it.

2012 brand new JKU, ORANGE, OAT.... My previous jeeps were also bright orange coolant. My JKU was made June 2012, bought it in July 2012...I was under the impression all the OAT was orange, at least until 2012....Did they change some something after 2012??

^ Yes. They changed it July 25, 2012 for the 2013 production year. It's now a purple HOAT.

I almost wouldn't put it past them to have a few days leaning into 2013 production where they may have put OAT in some, but past that I would question it.

The 2012 is HOAT and is orange in color.

The 2013/2014 is OAT and is purple in color.

They don't recommend mixing the two.........

Oops, typo

Old Dogger to the rescue!!!

I keep thinking the HOAT is the new stuff because I think of the 'H' meaning "higher", which makes me think of the longer duration formula now.

I guess I can just think of it like this OLD FORMULA = ORANGE

This crap is very confusing. I went to the dealer today to have them take a look at my reservoir because I had what I thought was "sand" in the bottom of it. Well it was sediment of some sort but of course the tech didn't have any clue what it could have been. I played stupid. I walked over to the parts counter and asked for some coolant for my '13 JK. The guy went and grabbed the orange HOAT. I asked if he was sure that was the correct coolant. He looked up my VIN and sure enough he said it calls for purple OAT. Well the only problem is, my reservoir has orange HOAT in it from the factory! Holy balls Chrysler!! Make the change before the first 2013 hits the production line, not half assed, 1, 2, or 3 months in! These dealers are so confused. I can't wait until this crap starts mixing and people are coming in by the droves complaining of issues.
