picked up an fram oil filter for my first oil change. bought a fram ch10955.. is this the correct filter. . no little nipple on the bottom. and where is it , was looking up in search mode and read that its on the top of motor ?
That's the correct part number if you're going to use Fram. I prefer Wix because of reasons I've ranted in other threads about, and it's about half the price from discountfleetsupply.
The filter is on the top of the engine, right up at the front. A little round cap with a plastic nut cast into it.
Just a really dumb question, the black engine cover, how is that held on? Do you just lift it straight up or is there clips or something to hold it on? Never messed with mine..Dumb, I know..
The cover just lifts straight up. There are some little plastic pegs sticking up from the engine and the cover has rubber bushings that just sit over those plastic pegs. So, to remove the cover, just grab it and lift it up.
Besides a thin layer on the o-ring, no I don't. I think the odds are against any catastrophic damage, even over time, from starting it once every few months like that. Also, I don't think there's an anti-drainback valve so any oil added would just run down to the pan anyway.
If I'm wrong on that point I'm sure someone will correct me. But I think that was why the filter changed for 2013.

Correct, there is no ADV in the 3.6 engine.
The filter is the same on the 3.6, from its origination, including 2013.
In 2014 the factory changed the oil cooler housing, and Incorporated the new filter.
The 2014 is also the year that is having issues, with the oil cooler housing cracking.........:thumb:
