that's just poor. i live in FL with no harsh cold weather and i don't have anything supplemental wired into the stock battery. i have just over 30k miles and the battery went dead this weekend. i don't expect a battery to last forever, but 30k miles?? weak!

I see that you have a 2012 Jeep. If the battery was manufactured in early 2012, it could be nearly 3 years old now. Mileage does not have anything to do with it. The battery in my previous truck lasted only 24 month. I had bought it at Autozone and it was still under warranty so they replaced it for free.

Your battery is 3 plus years old. 3 or 4 years is about all you get from todays batteries.

FYI, it is not the cold so much as the heat that kills batteries and since you live in Florida...

i have replaced it and moved on, thanks.

point is, i don't live in a climate with extreme temperatures. i'm in N FL and my jeep is garaged at work and home. and as a consumer, i expect more than a battery that barely gets my dealer purchased Jeep to 30k miles.

Interstate Batteries...

Why is it that people only tend to think about their car battery in the winter? The fact is, summer heat can be even more damaging than winter’s cold temperatures when it comes to car batteries. And yet, few people give batteries a thought during the heat of summer. The cold hard truth is that:

  • When the mercury rises, a car battery's strength goes down.
  • Extreme heat, like 95° F outside combined with high temperatures under the hood, accelerates corrosion of car batteries.
  • Heat causes the water to evaporate out of battery fluid, breaking down the battery grids.

The battery probably has a 4 year warranty. This means it is designed to last about 12-18 months less. It's a marketing scheme used by the battery manufactures to get you to use the warranty to purchase a new battery from them.

The stock factory installed batteries, do not have a proven track record of longevity!!!

Mine factory original battery, will be two years old, as of Feb 2015, (if it makes it that long).
The Phoenix heat, is Hell on Batteries!!!!!!!!
It will be replaced with one of the above........:thumb:

Are you guys using your batteries to weld or what? I just sold a 6 yr. old Buick Enclave with massive amounts of computer controlled, battery assisted gizmos, and it sat for months without use while I was out of town. Absolute crap battery history. It still worked every time without fail. My '12 JKR has 30K mi (is admittedly garaged) but can't believe it will need a battery for several more years. What is going on with your batteries????

You expect too much from manufacturers these days. They'll cut costs wherever they can to save a buck. And most consumers are very knowledgeable on batteries.

Almost 3 years on my stocker and it was replaced under warranty. Good for another 2-3 years then a Sears PM1 will be going in there.

A 2012 with less than 36k? Its under warranty, let them replace it free. Mine was replaced at 30k...

Then in 3 more years you'll buy a better battery and try to get 5 years out of it.

i called the dealership where i purchased. i told them battery went dead and i had to replace on my own due to circumstances and that i want info on warranty claim. as you can imagine, they don't have the answer readily available.

Good luck with reimbursment... when its replaced under warranty they use Mopar spec'd parts and Chrysler pays - not the dealer.

Perhaps you should have had it towed to the dealer.

You got some fantastic answers!! Miles have nothing to do with it. There are many factors and variables involved in the life of a battery. If you get over 2 years on any stock battery, your doing pretty well. Heat, Cold, Humidity, Corrosion, Dissimilar Corrosion, Driving Conditions (Stop and Go, Long Trips, Many Short Trips, etc etc) can have effects on the life of your battery. I replaced the battery in my company car about every 13 months, 2 so far. My personal car, the battery has lasted for 4 years before replacing it and my Jeep is still plugging along on the stock battery and I have all sorts of goodies hooked to the battery. It is a 2012 JK Sport. So as for my Jeep, I will not be surprised if it goes before the end of the year. If you do a lot of short trips and start your vehicle numerous times in a day such as I do with the company car, this will severely decrease the life of the battery...Pay for what ya get..Get a quality battery, I mean a real quality battery with over 800 amps cranking power and you may get more time..
