DEAD JEEP - 2014 JK - Superchips Flashpaq Disaster

So I purchased a Flashpaq back at the beginning of March in hopes of tuning my 2014 JK. I receive the Flashpaq and get to tuning and find out that my Jeep's config is too new and they don't have a tune for it yet. So, no biggie, I wait. And wait some more. So they tell me today that they now have an update for my Jeep and to update my tuner using their software and then program the Jeep. I do as they say, and it doesn't work. Same crap, different error. Error message E-55 this time, whatever that means. I try to crank the Jeep afterwards and it does nothing. All I get are lights. Will not turn over. Dead. Superchips killed my Jeep with less than 2,000 miles on it. They close shop at 5:00 eastern, so I have a dead Jeep until I can call them on Monday. Eric at Northridge4x4 tried to help out and I'm taking his advice by disconnecting the battery for a while, hoping to clear the data. I feel horrible.

Have you tried setting it back to the original settings? It is supposed to have that feature so you can remove the programming or use it on a different vehicle.

When first plugged into the Jeep it says "Jeep locked in recovery mode, press Next". Then it runs, loads, and errors out. E-55 No menu from which to choose any options.

Happened a few others a few months ago, they had to send PCM and Flashpaq to sc to make work...

Hearing horror stories like this is what makes me NOT buy stuff like that!! As much as I would love extra power as I came from the Mustang world, I am terrified of messing mine up. It sucks that car companies make is so difficult to just tune a vehicle with a tuner. I never had any issues what so ever using a tuner on my late 90's Mustangs and my 00's Ford Focus'.

But when you hear it takes years for tuner companies to crack codes now a days, I steer clear of them.

The sad thing is they really don't even give you that much more power. It's the other features they give access to that are useful. I use the procal for those.

Honestly even if it gives us 5-10hp, anything helps.

Yep, the Procal worked great on my 2014. Reprogrammed for larger tires and changed shifting points and speedometer.

I agree with Greg 2012 JKU. I hate having mechanical problems and with all the problems people are having with lifts, superchargers/turbos, chips, etc., I'll keep mine stock. There are very few of these "upgrades" I have done in the past that haven't caused problems later on and to me, that is a pain.
This time, no thanks!

I have tuned my 2014 JKU like 5 times with my flashpaq...
Never had even a hiccup after updating the unit which by the way I did before ever plugging it into the jeep... I did have an odd issue with 2013 tpms sensors shortly there after that I thought was the tuner thus I returned it to stock only to find out that the 2013 & 2014 are bastard children in regards to tpms sensors... There were jsut so many changes on the jeep in a single day that I initially thought the flashpaq was the cause, NOPE...

I have used Flashpaq's in all 3 of my jeeps since the price difference between the "cal" and "paq" is arguably small for the 10HP+- gain... and the ability to run 91 octane and see a benefit along with it is the only grade that has no ethanol added at my my semi local shell station...

Yeah, I've updated it 100 times. 4 different computers. It runs the same update each time.

I ran a flashpaq on my 2010 jku and loved it. Guess this is bad luck.

I'm with you. As much as I'd like one I won't buy one. Risk vs. reward it doesn't pay for me.

I am talking more along the lines of messing with the engine, I have seen so many stories of people having issues because of handheld tuners on the newer motors.

I have the TeraFlex Leveling kit in my garage and waiting to get wheels/tires before I install it. Been laid off for 7 months but just found a job and I start the beginning of May. So once I start getting a paycheck again, I will begin to start modding mine. Gotta get a new jack and jack stands before I do the install

Just thought I would update. Called Superchips first thing this morning and they sent me update after update but nothing ever worked. So they finally gave me the option of having the Jeep towed to dealer or pull PCM myself and ship it to them along with the programmer. I don't want anything to do with the dealer, so I pulled the PCM and it is going overnight to them. Hopefully they can get it going for me.

Man I hope everything works out for you. I've heard with using that tuner to make sure battery has full charge and turn off all other electronics. IDK ? Best of luck !

Update: They were quick with my PCM. They received it yesterday, fixed it, and overnighted back to me. I received it today before lunch and I installed it and the Jeep fired up. Huge relief off my back. So their customer service is definitely top notch. I really wanted the programmer to work, but I am not going to try again.

Did they send the PCM back with their tune programmed or did it come back with the stock tune programmed?

Wow, I keep looking at it because of the 87 tune. Still not sure I want to try it. A friend of ours tried it with their JKU, it's regeared the 4.56's. They had issues too, locked out in third gear I think. They went with flashcal instead.

Programmers are a risk. Anything can happen when you are loading a new "tune". My truck programmer had a known issue with the cable that was kept pretty quiet for some time. That issue resulted in loading half the tune and stopping. It left my truck dead (at my brothers house) and I ended up towing it to the dealer to get the PCM reflashed to stock. They charged me two hours labor and misc charges for something that probably took them 15 minutes to fix. With towing I ended up paying out over $350.00 bucks to get my truck running again and then I had to pay for a new cable. Now I don't switch the tunes on my truck ever. I leave it on the "tow" tune. While I do like my custom tunes and it really does add horsepower (about 40 in my case) it is not foolproof. If they screw up they will leave you stranded. I would never change any tune anywhere but at home and make sure your battery is fully charged when you do it.

That's pretty impressive, honestly. I'll still stick with a Procal since all I'll need is tire size settings, though. No tuner is going to squeeze enough meaningful gains out of this engine to make it worth the risk/$ for me.

Its sad to think that people think a procal is safe and a tuner isnt.......

Agreed. There is just as much chance the ProCal will do the same thing. Good luck to the OP but the numbers are on Superchips side. Thousands of units out there with 0 problems.

It's not about squeezing anything extra out, it's about tailoring the driveability to your driving style.

So what increase in performance are you getting? Is the performance measurable?

Any feedback would be great!
