I picked up a bumper on craigslist, with the intention of using the metal frame of the bumper as a base for a custom bumper.
One thing that I noticed after tearing it all apart is that the factory bumper frame isn't just a piece of C-Channel, when viewed from the end, the top and bottom aren't at a 90 degree angle to the face. It opens up a bit at the back.
I was wondering if anyone happens to know off the top of their head if there is a particular reason for that (like that it needs to follow that shape to clear the frame behind the mounts) or if I could take that angle out? I was thinking I might just slip some chunks of scrap tubing in a few places in the back, clamp it down on them and weld them in.
