Sand is bad for everything, literally nothing is made for sand, you just need to care for the equipment and clean it. Think joint.....now grease.....now add sand.....see sand gets everywhere and grinds in every joint. It won't kill a jeep and the motor is probably the least concerning part when talking about sand but it will destroy, rip, grind, joints and boots. When I ride dirt bikes after every ride I completely tear it down to clean it, it even has dirt in the name and isn't immune.
An accurate answer would be easier with more info. Assuming one either vacations once or twice a year at say, the OBX or they live close enough that they head to a Beach that they are allowed to drive on - then Go for it.
Common sense should then prevail.
- Don't drive in the water standing or otherwise.
- Wash the Jeep thoroughly after departure.
That's about it.
Sand is no friend to ANY machine whether it is conveyance or a weapons system. With proper maintenance no worries.
I wonder if the OP was referring to those guys who scream around the dunes and burn their Jeep to the ground overheating them, I have seen plenty on pics of BBQ hulks.....
That shouldn't even matter. By as RubiSS said, keep it kleen when your done, much less problems later...
