Just as the thread title says – does your brake pedal squeak?
So – now that we’ve had a “heat wave” as you could say, here in the southeast, with temps now above the 60s for the past few days, I’ve noticed that when the outside ambient temperature is above 60, my brake pedal squeaks. It’s coming from the floorboard area – and can “feel” the squeaking in the pedal when pressing the brakes. Brake operation is fine. Brake fluid level is fine – right in the middle. Plenty of brake pad left on the wheels. Can’t figure it out – but doesn’t appear to be any issue outside of the noise and “feeling” in the brake pedal.
It may just be the pedal pivot or linkage. My Jeep's brake pedal doesn't squeak, but I've owned several cars over the years that have required lubrication of the clutch and/or brake pedal pivot and linkage to get rid of squeaks.
This is not the first thread I've seen on this subject. And yes, mine does it too, but not always, it takes quite a bit of use before it starts. Some have suggested it's the master cylinder and/or the vacuum booster. It sure has a nasty, rubbery kind of "feel" to it.
you know - you bring up a good point about the vacuum booster. I had made a post a few weeks back about how after my Jeep sits for four or five hours, when I come in, I cannot push the brake pedal at all (it feels as if it has been pumped). Does that make sense?
So I wonder if these two are related? I have read (after posting) that putting grease behind the rubber boot where the pedal assembly goes through the fire wall) and others have said to replace the master cylinder and/or vacuum booster.
Flush your brake fluid before you try anything more expensive/invasive. A lot of times fresh clean fluid fixes squeaks and creaks in the brake and/or clutch pedal.
My Jeep is not very old (2014), but what you said makes pretty good sense `cause it does feel like the seals in the master cylinder are dry. I just might give this one a try. Thanks.
If by some chance it is the brake booster - as my Jeep is out of warranty, is that something that is a pain to change? I'm not completely mechanically inclined and my dad has worked on plenty of cars in his life so I feel if it's not too bad, could attempt it ourselves (assuming the fresh brake fluid and silicone doesn't fix it).
It's just odd to me that it does it only when it's warmer outside after you've been driving for a bit.
Sounds just like how my clutch pedal was. I was all ready to change the master cylinder and decided to do a fluid flush first on a whim. It hasn't creaked in over a year now.
Funny to see this post. My new 2017 started squeaking today. It was 78 here and I noticed it on the way home.
Going to spray some silicone spray on it tomorrow.
See, mine is more of the sound (and feeling) you get when you have a loose floor board. I feel it in my pedal (and hear it, as well), but it's hard to see exactly where it's coming from. I went and looked at that rubber boot under the floor board but couldn't get it to move enough to squirt fluid in it.
Again - only happens when it's warmer out - which makes me believe it may or may not be that sport and may indeed be the brake fluid - so, time will tell.
My 2013 squeaks loudly if I push on the brake pedal hard. It is not a linkage or friction thing because I can push on it hard and hold it and it keeps squealing loudly. I have read up on this and from what I have found, it is a brake booster issue.
That's what I've read as well. Like others have said - I am going to try and go with new fluid first, just to see. If not, then a new Brake Booster I will try. It does not seem too hard to swap out from video's I've watched...
I may have to bleed my brakes too and get some new brake fluid in there to see if it make a difference. I wish Toyota had bought Jeep instead of Fiat. My previous vehicle was a Toyota Tacoma and it was pretty much maintenance free for 11 years and 200k miles. Just had to change the brake pads and oil. I am constantly having to replace parts on my Jeep. I just replaced a sticking thermostat and housing after just 3 years.
Its very common brake booster problem. I would call a dealer if out of warranty they maybe able to get jeep to pay for the part at least.
