Caliper for measuring shims, As far as a yoke holder, there is nothing to grab onto with a pipe wrench as they are round on a jk. I fabricated one out of a pc of 1" llga tubing.
Long 3/4 inch breaker bar with a cheater. The torque required to crush a the crush sleeve on the dana 44 is immense. Not quite so bad on the 30 up front(if you have a 30) potentially break a 1/2".
Pinion nut is a 1 5/16 I believe.
You'll want to make or buy set up bearings too. Makes life a lot easier. Mostly on the pinion side. The carrier bearings can be pressed on immediately as the shims sit on the outside.
I think I have a pic of my torque tool. Set it up one way for the front and had to drill more holes for the rear. I didn't think it would hold up the bolts and the 11ga tubing held up. Really cant be any bigger than 1" or you won't be able to slip the socket by it. You can buy tools cut out of plate, but I have heard mixed results.
I did most of the front on the bench as I had it out to do gussets. Made it a lot easier. Took a little bit as I had to do more adjustments. Back took me two nights, would have been one, but had to take my pinion to work to press on the bearing and it is a 60 mile drive.
PM me if you have questions. I diy'd mine in September. No issues yet. 5000 miles later.
Oh, take copious notes.
You tube vids and here is a link to a great article on another site.
