Door hinge bolt broken .. Help

6k miles and I had some popping on the passenger side body when I make a lt turn .. So trying to fig out what it was and I could lift up on the pass side door and I could hear the same popping sound in the body.. None of the hinges were moving but the door was a little .. So I looked up the torque setting for hinge to hinge bolt 19 ft lbs and started to tighten them all to torque . All but one turned a 1/2 turn to spec the other never got tight and the bolt in the hinge broke.
So how do I fix it ? Will the pin come out? Or is it a hole new hinge ? And if so can I order it color matched .. I don't know wtf to do.. Any help would be very much appreciated..

There are tools on the market for removing snapped bolts. I've used one where you drill a hole in the center of the snapped bolt and insert the tool and while it screws into it it loosens the bolt. Check with autozne for a loaner?? Or look into harbor freight.

I snapped one myself. I bought the worthless Tuffy hinge lock that in no way ever fits the bolts for a 13 jk ever. Tuffy said I over torqued a bolt that had 1/4" to go before it should have ever been tightened. Anyways, I never did end up removing the old bolt yet but the local dealer had a replacement for $21ea. I need to go and get a can of mopar commando green first. ,,

You can also replace the bolt with a stainless bolt from ace. It's what I use now for my doors off mirror bracket. That way I'm not chipping the paint off the factory one. Plus it looks clean.

Thanks for the feed back.. I have to say it's another POS engineering on Chrysler .. It would be a easy fix if they would of just threaded the bottom of the hinge pin where you could just replace the threaded part with a Allen head set screw .thats what I call it.. What a pain to fix !!

Something doesn't sound right. Are you talking about the retaing bolt on the bottom of each hinge pin? You dont even need them let alone torque them. Mine have been off for years.

Well the threaded part at the bottom of the hinge pin is what broke. And I did read after my post that a lot of people just leave the nut off .. I guess I was freaking out a little last night when it happened cuz I love my jeep and I don't want her to be F up 😳

At 6k miles, bring it back to the dealer for a new hinge.

I'm going to try to fix it myself or I mite just leave it off if it's to much of a pain to get the pin out.
I fig if I do it myself then I won't have to worry about somebody at the dealership really jacking up the paint on my door..

I reread the post and realized it is the door hinge not the frame side. A lot of jk doors make a popping sound. There is a write up on here about it. If memory serves correct I believe it is in the latch mechanism not the hinges. Do a search on it. I wrapped tape around the latch post and it stopped. It just needs adjusting for a better fit.

Well it sounds like sheet metal popping and when I lift up on the door with it open It will make the same sound from the front quarter panel. The door is really tight when it closed so I don't no what it is.. But Thanks for the help

At 6k miles, if the dealer doesn't than he's an idiot. To risk any and all future business for a inexpensive part?

Worst case senerio, buy the part, some touch up paint and install it yourself. Don't forget to tell the dealer you will be taking your business elsewhere from now on.

Wtf why would you think that would make a popping noise? I threw those bolts away ages ago....they do nothing but make it harder to take the doors off. Infact i run soft doors all summer they dont even use the bolts

Id take it to the dealer for the popping noise.

Yeah, that's the answer. Don't take responsibility for your own actions and get someone else to pay for your screw ups.

My jeep has a freakin bullet hole in it, a real one.

Do you repaint the latch strikers every time you open your door? Do you repaint your latches on your windshield every time you put the top down?

I do keep my jeep looking nice. But i dont paint the freakin bolts either. I actually wheel it and it has some wear and tear...

I was just yankin his chain.

The bullet hole is just a scrape on one of my wheels. Richochet lol.

I have an "acquaintance" who shot a hole through his door but it's not very cool since the bullet hole is bent "outwards" so it's obvious he had an accident from inside the vehicle. I try not to be nearby when he's armed.

Amazon and other places sell decals. My brother-in-law put some of these on his old Jeep and said he frequently would get stopped by the cops who wanted to know more on the story.
