drag link / steering problem

took my jeep for annual registration, it failed the test and the report showed bad steering/ gap in the steering system, I tool it to the dealer they looked at it and said ok we will replace the drag link and its under warranty. which they did and half an hour latter they said its done and good to go.. I can tell the jeep drives better/ firmer so i drove back for registration and its Ok passed.

question: what could be faulty on the drag link, its just a Metal Bar, like nothing sophisticated, is it really the fix is to just swap the old with new or there is something fishy here?

I paid nothing and it was a piece of cake dealing with the dealer..!!

thanks

Bad tie rod end I assume. The passenger side is part of the drag link and need to be replaced as a whole.

thanks Kjeeper, what do you mean by pass side needs replacement? they just removed the draglink on pass side then unscrew it from where we center the steering wheel and replaced that part (metal bar), I can tell and feel the steering handles better now.. do you mean they should have replaced something else also?

Either they replace one of the joint at the end of the rod (tie rod end) or replaced the bar because it was not true or had damaged treads on one end.

Aftermarket drag links and tie rods have replaceable joints on both ends.

If you look closely at both the stock tie rod and drag link. The tie rod is crimped to the joint on the passenger side. The drag link is one solid unit.
The drag link to pitman and tie rod to driver knuckle is replaceable.
Your tech had no choice to replace the drag link itself.

this is what they replaced, the shiny black part.

When I checked today I noticed some grease outside the rubber, I hope this is normal because it got squeezed when they tightened the bolt.

anything suspicious that you can tell from the pics..?

thanks
sorry for the bad english.. english is not my first lang.
