I am going to install my teraflex 1.5" leveling kit this week I bought with jks quick disconnects. Now my questions are about tires. I want to use the stock 18" rims that came on my 14 polar edition. I live up north so deal with all kinds of weather. I want to run 33's and narrowed it down to 3 tires.
1. Goodyear Duratrecs
2. Dick Cepek mud country
3. Dick Cepek fun country
I will do light off-roading at southington, beaches in NC or, trails in michigan.
This is my fun vehicle not a daily driver. I'd like to get the biggest 33's on the stock 18" rims. I'm ok with wheel spacers.
1. What tire size will work?
2. Secondly which tire would be the best tire for my use?
3. What size wheel spacers will I need?
If you stay out of thick mud then the DT or Fun Country are a good choice specially if you're driving from MI to NC. The FC doesn't get a lot of play on the forum, in part because there are so many great tires and but they have been building high quality off road tires for some time and have survived hard times via Mickey Thompson and now Cooper Tire. Like the ATZ they provide a compliant ride and plenty of floatation.
On the other hand the DT is a solid all around performer but it is usually more expensive.
Unless you are rally crazy about your 18" rims you should consider downsizing to 16-17" rims. The tires are cheaper, no spacer required with the right offset and with a 33" they are really exposed to trail and curb damage.
I recommend the Duratracs, too: they ride smoothly, are quiet on the freeway, look great, and are known to perform well in winter conditions.
My JKUS is running 285/70-17 Duratracs (i.e., a "33" inch tire), on 17x8.5 AEV Savegre wheels with 5.2 backspacing and NO spacers; there's no rubbing and they sit fairly flush with the fenders.
If you deal with snow at all you will want to go with the DT's. Mud tires are cool to look at & great in the mud but they suck on pavement.
