Has anyone run into a exhaust smell inside the cab when you floor it? My 2011 always did it and that one got traded in. Now with my 2014 it does the same! Any ideas of what it could be?
I have noticed the same thing. Mine is a 2013 that I only bought last month. I thought maybe it was because I've basically had the top off or windows out since I've bought it.
I have my JKU for 3 days now, and I had to floor it a little today on the highway. I noticed the exhaust smell too. I though it was caused by some residual grease on the exhaust. Good to know.
I think what you guys are referring to is the smell from the catalytic converter. When you go to full throttle you are dumping a lot of fuel (rich) and it does make an odor at the cat. You can notice it on most cars if you run at wide open throttle for an extended period of time. I have had LOTS of rental cars with that odor
Yeah.... I was going to say, the factory tune for most newer vehicles (our Jeeps included) have them running a bit on the rich side with fuel, to act as extra insurance against problems (keeps engine temps down a bit and ensures less chance of leaning out and getting engine knock under certain conditions).
I suspect reflashing with a custom tune like the "power" tunes offered by SuperChips would eliminate some of the excess richness of the fuel -- but also not sure if these tunes change *anything* that happens at full throttle? (I know there's typically an "open loop" mode the computer goes into for wide open throttle where it doesn't even use the tuning map that's used the rest of the time.)
FIXED! You need to go to muffler shop and have them put your tailpipe behind the back wheel allowing exhaust to not get vacuumed back into the cabin. Simple and worked immediately.
