Faulty Computer?

Hey guys, my names Travis and I've been a member for a while I just normally keep to myself and read posts. However, I have a problem. I have a 2007 JK and a few days ago I noticed it was hesitating to accelerate and then would lurch forward all of a sudden. The next day it only got worse and was actually dangerous trying to accelerate to get on the highway. By the end of the night it was too bad to keep driving and my check engine light started flashing and beeping. I brought the jeep to the mechanic where he charged me $300 for a full tune up which he realized didn't fix the problem. Today he told me he thought the computer was bad because only the left half of my engine was running. He said that I'll have to bring it to a dealer to get a new computer programmed. Also, I had a rebuilt engine put in about 6 months ago because I hydrolocked the original, but my mechanic says that's not what's causing this. I'm only 19 and I used all the money I had to get a rebuilt engine, I'd appreciate any help or advice from you guys, thank you!

What did the "tune-up" include? $300 seems like a lot to pay for a service that ends with an entire bank of the engine not firing. I'd suggest getting a list of services the mechanic performed and posting it up. That should help people try to diagnose your issue.

Do you know what trouble codes you threw? If not your mechanic should be able to tell you. I'd imagine he looked them up when you brought the Jeep in. That might shed some light on where the problem is. If not any autoparts store can scan trouble codes for you for free.

Have you talked to the shop that swapped your engine? Do they offer any sort of warranty on their work? They might at least take a look at the engine and help diagnose the issue for you just to make sure it wasn't their **** up thats causing your issues.

Finally, when you hydrolocked your original engine, did you soak the ECM as well? It is certainly possible that your fried more than your engine if you were playing in deep water.

Sorry for the wall of text but any and all detailed information that you can share will help people make more educated guesses at what might be happening with your Jeep.

I'm sorry for the lack of information. I'm not sure what the tune up consisted of yet, as the Jeep is still at the shop and I have not yet paid the mechanic. All I know is he said that my poison spyder hood louver was allowing water to corrode wires which were arcing over and that was what was causing the issue. He said it'll need a full tune up and will cost $300 to fix. After that I called him and he said that that didn't fix the problem and he still doesn't know what's causing it.

Today, I called him and he said he thinks its the computer and he can't do anything about it. I'll have to go to a Jeep dealer where they will charge me an arm and a leg... his exact words.

The codes have been the same codes that were up since they did the engine swap, its a bunch of O2 sensor codes. however, one new code came up, a misfire code. I have the exact codes written down at home, I'll try and post them later, I'm at college right now.

Also, this is the mechanic that did the engine swap, and I'm not sure if the water caused this problem, as it ran fine for the past 6 months. Also the puddle was only about 8" deep, I guess I just went through it too fast and the intake sucked up water.

Thank you for your help guys, I really appreciate it.

Do you have a Shop Manual. Another suggestion is see if a friend has a Shop Manual for any kind of car or vehicle and see what troubleshooting Analysis will tell. Anything will help. I use to have 94 Isuzu Rodeo Manual and I'm kinda wishing i had it still. (Garbage) Also, if you had some bad wiring, this would have taken out some electronics. I'd also be looking at Fuses. You also should have disasembled all Plugs and Harnessess looking for water intrusion and any corrosion damage. If you found this stuff there is most likely more. I'd keep looking. Check every plug and connection. And of course, disconnect the battery. You never did mention what the spark plugs looked like. That is always the first thing i look at when i have car problems. And when you had these problems with hesitation, was there back fire or smoke (blue, white or black). Smell of Gasoline?
