I have a new Wrangler JK with a hard top.
I have 2 screws one in each freedom top that holds the tops down.
Do I need to reinstall them when I put the tops on or will it be ok to just run without them?
It's puzzling why the engineers at Jeep ever included that pair of quiet prominent bolts or for that matter any of latches on the F-panels. By all means feel free to eliminate any and all of them as you see fit. But before you make your decision you may want to read a few of the numerous threads regarding issues with the hard top.
I don't use the screws on mine, no squeaks or leaks. Got a new top this spring courtesy of a moving truck on ice and the first time I pulled the panels I didn't put them back in again. I think Jeep engineers and especially Chrysler engineers like to put odd fasteners in the mix just to make things more difficult.
They're there so you can run the front panels without the main piece. There are plastic spacers on the panels that flip down, then the screws hold them down.
Like stated, and in the directions for the freedom top, they are required for using the front panels with out the rear section. Otherwise no need for them.

Mine have been out since month 1. That was over 2 years ago. I had more leaks when they were in there then without.
They are mainly for if you are just running the freedom panels without the rest of the top. If you add a full length spiderwebshade or others like it, you won't be able to get to them anyway.
took mine out the first time i took it off never put them back in and not had a single problem. makes it easy to take off when hunting and put back on. not that i shoot animals out of my jeep or anything.
