Front U Joint

Have any of you guys had your front u joint assembly break?
I put mine in 4 wheel on friday and the whole assembly just busted. Then I took it the dealership and they said it wasn't a warranty issue due to the fact I took it off road. What does TRAIL RATED mean again? I don't mean serious off road either just riding a trail with about 20 degree inclines.

Well lets see. Did you tell them, that you took it off road?

If you did, then its gonna take some fighting. Don't worry i did the same thing, but i told them i was camping in woods and driving on a "fire road". I had a busted throw-out bearing due to being stuck in deep water/sand. And it took me 1 and a half month to make warranty pay for repairs.

Was your Jeep covered in mud? What did you tell them about how it broke/what were you doing prior to break?

Go on Jeep.com and read everything about Wranglers "Trail Rated"/off road capabilities. Print some stuff out.

At the dealership, you are most likely talking to a Service Asst. Manager. Find out who is the Service GENERAL Manager. But before talking to him tell me exactly what happed, how you broke it, what you told dealer, and what they told you.

1: I don't see how it can't be warrantied if the vehicle is purpose built for going off road and Jeep now having a lifetime waranty on the drive train.

2: You are dealing with a dealership, you are gonna have to fight them for anything.

3: Did you really take it off road or were you on pavement? Engaging 4WD while on pavement is not something to do and can result in breakage from binding.

It's always a good idea, if you are ever going to modify your Jeep, to make friends with a mod-friendly dealership. Most others will just give you crap for touching it.

Well I just got a call from the dealership there not going to repair it. The district manager called the dealership and said not to. I don't get it one dealership said no and the other said no problem it was a warranty issue. If any of you guys have any suggestions let me know?

What was the reason behind the no this time? Is it just a u-joint or are the yokes gone too?

The whole assembly is broke. When the u joint broke the yoke and axle hit each other and bent. So both the yoke and axle are bent and need replacing. Then when I drove home when I would turn real sharp it would rub and bend even more.

You can contact your local better bussines bureau and make a complaint about that dealer, bealive me thats a bad thing for bussines.
Thats amazing it's like selling waterproof wathces and the waranty will not cover water damage.

Better Business Bureau should help too. You just gotta get all the info straight. Who did you talk to, what are the names, dates, why won't warranty cover it, what does manager tell you. Its a good idea to go to the service manager, and tell him to write you a letter explaining why won't the warranty cover the repairs, and why are they refusing to fix it. Make him sign and date it too.
