Unhappy fuel overflowing

My 2008 Wrangler has started overflowing at the gas pump. The pump used to stop when it was full. Now it doesn't automatically shut off anymore and fuel overflows. Any idea of why this would just start happening out of the blue? I called a local JEEP dealer service and they said they have't heard of this happening before. I bought it less than a year ago and my warranty expired a month ago

That dealership is FOS. This is a known issue with a recall. Schedule an appointment with another dealership that knows of this issue, and it can be fixed at no cost to you.

I'll give it a try! Thanks

I called another dealership and they instantly replied that they are aware of the problem, but since my warranty has expired, it will cost me. Bummer since I called where I bought it from six months ago and they acted completely unaware of the problem.

So, I love my JEEP and guess I'll keep watching the gage as I pump.

Chrysler has released a service bulletin about the fuel spill issue in some 2007 - 2008 JK's. They have extended the warranty on the inlet check valve. If you have this issue you get a free gas tank, if you have paid to have it fixed you can be re-imbursed for the repair. Submit your receipts directly to Chrysler. The extended warranty will show up on a VIP report if your vehicle is covered. The service bulletin is 14-001-11. Build date restrictions apply. Look up this TSB 14-001-11. You should be covered by the extended warranty.

I agree with jwann01 I had a jeep wrangler 2008 x and I had the same problem. It will overflow at the gas pump and they did had a recall on this. I took my in to fix, but they didn't do a great job. My still overflow at the gas pump. So, basically I will just pull the handle before it over flow on me.

Other than that, I didn't have any problems with it. I actually did a trade in at the dealer and got me a new willy's wheller.

Good luck!

Drive safe!

Just had the fuel filler tube replaced for my 08 jkur but it was under warranty code x32 ..
Also just call Chrysler customer service directly explain the symptoms and they find your specific warranty code and they'll also call the dealer and let them know for you . I had to do this as i called the dealer and explained to the i had a tsb and they said i would have to pay. But Customer service straightened it out for me.

I just picked up a 2008 Sahara, imagine my surprise when I filled up the first time..!!! Gas all over my new purchase, me and the parking lot. Was not expecting that, the pump turned off but the gas kept coming..!!!
After some research online and this forum, I contacted the Chrysler/Jeep dealer in my area, without any question or b.s., they ordered the part and will contact me when it arrives. It will be repaired at no cost to me..!!!!
So far so good.....

fwiw, the part number for the filler neck is CNNNX321AC. approximate cost if you buy it yourself is $46.20. Chryslers only pays .2 hours for install under warranty, customer pay time would probably be .4-.6 hours. so the most I would expect to pay for this job assuming a 100$ an hour labor rate at the dealership would be 106.20 plus tax and shop fee. or you can give the dealer the part number and buy it yourself and install it yourself quite easily, its a rubber tube with a valve in the middle and its held into the fuel filler neck going to the fuel tank with 1 hose clamp on each end of the tube.....mine hasn't spit back since the repair has been made 20-30 fillups later

Awesome feedback, thanks! I'm going to call Chrysler direct and work through the dealership that is aware of the problem, NOT the one I purchased it through. I now know what to expect for cost too. I'll let you know how it turns out.

UPDATE:
Just had my gas tank, fuel pump and filler hose replaced today on my 2008 Sahara at my Jeep/Chrysler dealership. I dropped it off, they took me back to work and picked me up to get my Jeep when the job was done. NO COST, warranty work. I had a great experience.
I filled up the tank on the way back to work, gas nozzle locked on "full".
I stepped back when the tank was getting close to full, just in case it spit back. No issues, works as it should.
Stick to your guns if the dealership says that this is not covered.
2007/2008 only for the TSB.

Thanks joeymac for the encouragement! My warranty expired because the dealership I spoke with while under warranty wasn't aware of the issue. Now my warranty has expired, I got burned. But not going to give up!

For some reason my reply did not show up, I'll try again.
I purchased my 2008 Sahara about a month ago with 40,000 miles. I do not have a warranty as far as Chrysler is concerned. My Chrysler dealer had absolutly no problems covering this problem. Unless your Jeep has already been repaired you should be covered, at no cost to you on this problem. I would try a bigger dealership or if needed I can give you the contact that I used and maybe they can help you out.
Gas coming out of the filler neck is very dangerous and there is no excuse for them giving you the run around.
Good luck....

A contact couldn't hurt. Thanks! I plan on getting it done soon, afraid it's going to ruin my paint too.

My 07 overflowed the first day I had it. Hopefully my local dealership won't make it a hassle to make the repair. For now I just pump gas at a much slower rate. It's kinda annoying but it works for now. Good thing I saw this thread and there's a solution

Warranty or not. This is a safety issue that the automakers should have to fix.

Only time Ive had that problem, it was a malfunction in the gas pump itself.

Try several gas stations...
