Hello beautiful people!!!
I re-geared my Jeep 3 weeks ago and have hit the 500 mile mark. Went w Yukon years and duratrac carrier. I ordered teraflex differential covers and lube lockers but they won't be in until Wednesday. Am I safe to keep driving it as long as I don't put a lot more miles on it or should I just wait and swap the gear oil out? I don't want to damage anything and this is completely new to me. Thanks for any advice. Happy Memorial Day weekend

Thanks mommymallcrawler. I read several threads with you giving advice and I could no longer stand the lack of power with 3:73 gearing and my setup. Although it's prob a joke to most on here, 4:56,35" trail grapplers, and after market bumpers, I can definitely feel a huge difference now.

That sounds like a good setup. Your Jeep definitely got its guts back! The majority of folks who say "nah don't need to regear" have never driven a properly geared Jeep on big tires to realize just how significant the difference can be. And I don't see why gearing scares folks so much - they'll put $2000 in bling on the Jeep when they would get much more bang for the buck out of a regear instead.

Enjoy your upgrade!

I keep running into guys that spend $2200 on tires and another $1000+ on LEDs but don't understand what Re-gearing does...SMFH. Also, I'm in Chicago. Buncha street queens and idiots with 22" wheels on their Jeeps here.

South side of Chicago? I'm near but farther south, near Kankakee. Who did the gears for you and do you mind sharing what you paid? Guy near me wants $2900... That includes front carrier as I am 3.21 currently.
Also where you on the stock "32's" w/ the 3.73's? How did you like that combo?
Thanks.

I'm out in NY and my jeep is going in next Fri for my regear. Can't wait. Right now I'm on Rubi tires and with all the weight from the bumpers and what not it feels sluggish with the 3.21. Can't wait to see how it should drive with 4.56 and also doing front and rear true trac.

I paid $900 for labor. Had my own parts. Kept my front carrier as I had 3:73. I had 35" tires and I felt too sluggish. I couldn't get past 70 without feeling like I was about to breakdown. Suburban driveline did mine. They're far as heck from you. Check out Chicago drivetrain in Alsip. They are certified Yukon gear retailers and do the work also.

Did you mean Chicago Driveline, Inc.? I googled but did not find Chicago drivetrain.
Also please elaborate on "couldn't get past 70 without feeling like I was about to breakdown." That statement is confusing to me.
Thanks.

Thanks also to those who replied... I know $2900 was a shocker to me too.
This place is local and good, but never has the best prices on what I would call the "optional" types of work.

I am hoping to find someplace closer than Alsip though as they are just as far as Chicago Drivetrain.

Interesting read here. I am still tossing the idea of just putting that regear money into two new axles. I know its a big investment but I have a D30/D44 Sport and no locker now (LSD rear) but if I spend 2 grand to just regear I still have the same housings and I am wanting to lock and possibly go no bigger than 37's in the future. Yes I plan on spending the cash to do it right.
South side huh, I grew up at 111th near the Il/IN boarder. Steel Mill City then lived in Cal City/Riverdale until I moved to WI in 90. Still a Bear fan!

Regear it.
Truss and gusset it.
I had a shop in Sycamore do mine. I won't name who they are because they destroyed the front set by not setting the pinion bearing pre-load and broke my front axles. They had to buy a new front ring and pinion set. They then replaced my front axles with 4340 units and tried to get me to pay for them by saying they replaced my rear axle bearings that cost $196 a piece, because "the master install kit I gave them didn't come with axle bearings" I told them to shove it up their A$$. My Jeep was there 6 days and not once did they call me to tell me anything that happened. Ended up costing me 1117 out the door with the new front axles and a new rear rotor, after a quote of $1000 for labor. Bunch of Shysters.

I did a 100 mile break in like I know racers do. 3, 30-35 mile warm ups with cool downs in between changed the oil and then give it hell. Drove 200 miles to the Badlands the weekend after the install and wheeled it hard.
