Yep, bi-Xenon HIDs are the best. There are several good brands that are much less pricey. For instance check out the Morimotos based 7" round units from TRS and HIDProjectors. HID bulbs in projectors provide the best quality pattern to date, at least for aftermarket products.

Are LED high beams possible yet?

I have only had experience with my JW Speakers and I can say that I have been very pleased with them. I am just now getting into some winter weather with them and have not had enough snow to really test them out yet but if we get some soon I will give you an update. I can say that I have done my fair share of night time driving in them though and they have saved me from countless deer encounters.
Best LED product

I'm also from upstate NY. I put a set of KC LEDs in. Wow what a difference. I am aware/concerned of the "snow-melt" issue, but have also had problems for decades with halogen-powered lights getting icing as well. I have added Rain-Xing the headlights to the routine when i do the windshield (which is regularly). We had a few snow & freezing rain events this week, one bad one last night when i was coming home from camp, LEDs were clear the whole way. So far so good. I have also seen a lot of 18-wheeler's going to a LED setup as well, FWIW.
2nd best LED. AKA, Quatratec or Peterson

I'm also from Upstate NY. I bought a Cibie kit from Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy and Supply with the OSRAM H4 bulbs four years ago. They work well and the installation process was a breeze.
Best inexpensive solution.

We have been running a JW speaker version of LED headlights on our fleet of T800 kenworths the past few years with no issues with snow/ice buildup in the western Alberta oilfield. It's about as extreme a climate as 90% of people will ever drive in. I just ordered a set of quadratecs LED's and have little worry of snow and ice buildup on them.

I agree JWSpeaker 8700s are probably the top $helf but also cost a few $100 more, but FWIW:

I dont know if Peterson makes KC or vice-versa, maybe even one owns the other, both are made in USA and have 1100 lumens low and 1650 high beam, reflector and housing look similar with H4 connectors with similar but different logo-ed heatsinks. The KC has a 23 year warranty.

I dont think the quadratecs are the same however. Different housing, different reflector, 599 lumens low, 1095 high beams, hard-wired (no H4) connector with external anti-flicker/H13 adapter, different heat-sink, and made in ???? with a 3 year warranty.

Installed JW Speaker lights about a year ago, very happy with them.

First trip with them was to Northern BC (Prince George) last December. No icing up issues. A few times I was sure they got taken out by the 3/4" minus crush:rant: we use up here to sand our roads. Checked them out closely when I stopped for gas and could only see a few tiny marks on the lenses. Very durable & bright LED lights. Recommend to any one that doesn't mind paying the extra. The old saying 'You get what you pay for' holds true.

Like them so much I saved up for the fog lights to match. Just installed them a few weeks ago. Frigg'in amazing lights!!

Lots & lots of highway tractors using them in my area.

I have to chime in on the JW Speaker. Much better than I expected. The light is like daylight and easy on the eyes when driving. With those and my dually fogs, driving down country roads, I can really see good and far. Definitely recommend these.

I've had the sealed 7 morimoto hid projectors in for a couple months now. Bright and crisp light high beams are daylight and low beams are comparable to a high end luxury head light. No flashing from traffic unless I'm on an angle but that would happen with any headlight you u
se that's not auto leveling. Really happy with them and would advise anyone thinking of upgrading to consider them. Its a tedious job installing but very easy. Not as much a drop in unitbas the others.

Yeah, I'll snap some pics tonight.

Edit:
This is a picture of an FX-R projector... its basically a little bigger, but only a tad brighter.. I had these previously on my old vehicle and i cant tell a difference between them and the ones on my jeep. High beams is the same intesnity just the upper portion is lit up as well.. there is a sheild that drops to allow the light through, which gives that nice cut off line when up.. IF thats not enough light for you, instead of 35watt ballasts get the 55watt ones.. buts thats just overkill and i recommend against it for the safety of other drivers.
