Heating / cooling knob

I noticed that the thermostat dial on my dash (for heating and cooling) turns all the way to the coldest setting but stops halfway through the red zone. Is it normal or is it a defective knob?

Mine turns from about 7:00 on the blue side to about 5:00 on the red side concentric about the center position.

Mine travels the full range of the blue/red markings. Essentially as jk'n said, that's 7:00 blue to 5:00 red.

Make certain the that "knob" is inserted at the proper start angle. The blend single-turn potentiometer has a limited shaft radius or contact angle. If the knob is inserted at the wrong angle when installed, the arc available will be limited. That being checked, yes... you could have a faulty unit that needs replacement/service.

Yeah, Mine stops about 3 oclock. I'll check the knob install. The blue stops @ 7 oclock witch makes me think it's the part.

These used to be mechanical connections through cables on older vehicles. Didn't realize that had changed. The wonders of modern technology. I guess that would make it easier to deal with inside the dash compared to linkages. Probably more difficult if it messes up though in the troubleshooting process.
