So I have sold my Harley and now want to lift my 2014 JKUR. I have done Nitro Sleeves, Synergy C Gussets, Teraflex Leveling kit and I'm about to install 315/70R15 Dynapro MT tires.
My JKUR is a daily driver and will see some weekend trail use. Excellent on road manners is a must and still need to kick some butt offroad.
Looking for a 2.5 to 3 inch lift. I know there are tons of brands out there but who truly is the best for what I need?
I just want to give you a little dumbed down information and some personal opinion about control arm drop brackets.
What most lift kits do is they put in longer control arms to compensate for the shortened wheel base as you lift the jeep. Depending on your needs this isn't always the best setup for a daily driver.
The alternative to this is control arm drop brackets. These are brackets that lower the control arm mounting points. What you gain in this setup is better than factory on road performance. The drawback here is the the control arms are now sitting a bit down low and can get banged up on rocks if you don't pick your lines right. (Some people have no issues)
Drop brackets are included in the 3.5 and 4.5 AEV lift kits. They can be added onto the 2.5 kit.
Another company that makes drop brackets is rancho and they come on one of their lift kits.
One thing to keep in mind is you can use any lift kit you want and add drop brackets onto it later.
Once you go above 2.5 you will have to starting fixing steering geometry angles. The AEV kits come with a setup to correct this or you can look at synergy setups which can be added onto any lift.
I recommend looking at the 2.5 AEV lift kit.
Some other more knowledgeable members will chime in soon.
While I was researching my lift multiple people told me to go with the Tereflex 2.5" lift (the spring lift not the budgest boost spacer kit), AEV Drop bracket as mentioned above, Rancho RS9000 shocks and JKS Quicker Disconnects.
I found if you get it all through Northridge4x4 there is a 10% discount code on here. DOesn't sound like much but it adds up.
Never heard if this issue with the 2.5" and higher I have heard of some settling with the performance leveling kit that tf makes but none of their other stuff.
Anyhow if your looking for a quality lift you need to pay a price. Look into synergy, metalcloak, and rock krawler. I have heard great things about rock krawlers new triple rate coils there supposed to ride very nice. Like already mentioned drop brackets will greatly improve your ride on any lift.
Terflex is making a 3" HD coil.
People start adding weight and the 2.5" coils loose height. The 3" coil should fix this.
PM them for more info. Not sure of the specifics.
So I am swaying hard twords the AEV lift. I love everything about it except the thin geo brackets. If I go this route I'll look yo use the Rancho brackets instead.
This past weekend I finally got to install my Metalcloak 2.5" ARB lift kit. Granted I've only had it on for 5 days now, but I'm really happy with the ride and quality of the kit. Haven't had the chance to wheel it yet, hoping to this long weekend. Also throwing on tires tomorrow. I was torn between the AEV 2.5 and the Metalcloak 2.5", I drive 50 miles everyday roundtrip to work so being a good DD was important to me. That being said when we do go wheel, we go hard and there's plenty of trails for it here in Colorado. So I felt that with Metalcloak I was getting the best of both worlds, with the easy ability to upgrade if I want to go bigger (when the JKU becomes a toy and not DD). I did wait a while before deciding on a kit (1 year and 11months, but who's counting) for a couple of reasons. First I wanted to see how the JKU would perform in "stock" trim on some of the trails I ran my YJ on. To give me an idea of what was needed to be done with my build (see where weaknesses were). Second I wanted to do a ton of research before I pulled the trigger on spending thousands of dollars on a lift (don't want to do it twice). I searched on multiple forums for feedback, visited local 4x4 shops to get opinions, and checked out local wheeling events to talk with fellow owners about their rigs. Overall I'm extremely happy with the set up so far ( 5 days in). I hope this helps in some way, all the folks on this forum helped me with questions and decisions, I just want to pay it forward.
BDS 3" with upgraded Fox 2.0 shocks is what I got. And I absolutely love it! Customer service was top notch too. I crammed the back of my jeep full of camping gear etc, hooked up a 5x10 trailer with 2 quads, 2 loaded coolers and 3 full gas cans. I don't think it even sagged a half inch. Worth looking them up at least!
