I bought my 2013 Jeep wrangler unlimited sport 2 weeks ago with 27k miles on it, after a day or 2 of having it i was sitting at a stoplight and it just died on me, started right up no problem, i just thought i was going crazy. The issue happened again, and has seemed to got worse. (it died on me 4 times going less then 1 mile) There is no check engine light on what so ever, i took it back to the dealer and they have had it one week and have not gotten anywhere with it. Has anyone else experienced this issue and has anyone figured it out? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!! :beerme:

I had a similar problem with a Pt Cruiser. It would run fine but would sometimes sputter a bit at stop lights and occasionally turn off. It would always start right back up but I didn't know what the deal was. I got a bottle of STP Fuel Injection Cleaner and added it to the 3/4 tank of gas that was in the car and ran it through it and it seemed to clear it up. It idles normally now and hasn't cut off at anymore stop lights. You may want to try a good Fuel Injector Cleaner in it.

Give the dealer a chance to make it right, but keep on them to keep moving forward. If it's sitting and they haven't touched it, then the dealership is giving you the run around. If the problem is highly repeatable, then they can diagnose it. But it may take time, especially if it's some sort of electrical short. They can take forever to track down.

I'm concerned it died 4 times in one mile and did not throw any codes. Some codes do not illuminate the MIL but most engine performance codes do.

You may want to invest in an inexpensive code reader and read the codes yourself when it dies, if there are any. The dealer may have puled history or pending codes? Do not clear the codes if there are any, the FF data can help diagnose.

I've seen Pentstars die at idle that have CKP and CMP sensor failures, but they normally set codes.

Well after the dealership i bought it from had it 13 days (mind you they had it longer then i did) they told me they could not get it to die however they would replace the power train control module, i picked it up and it died at the first light i was at when getting back into town. Still no Check engine lights, no codes in the history. I cannot come up with anything other then maybe a throttle position sensor? It will not die if i keep my foot on the gas and brake sitting at a stoplight. Thanks for all the help!

I'm guessing you bought it used. Any indication that it may have been submerged by the previous owner? In some engines, low cylinder compression will make it very difficult to obtain a consistent low idle. It wouldn't be hard for a mechanic to run a cylinder compression or leak down test. Also, some of the very early 2013s may have had the same cylinder head issue as the 2012s. Although this problem usually throws a code for the computer.

If it is a manual transmission, turn off the hill start assist and see if that helps any. I used to stall my first one all the time because I was fighting the HSA. You can turn it off through the EVIC system.

Take it back and go on a drive with the tech and see if you can re-create it again.

X2 If they can't get it to repeat, show them. My guess is they didn't even drive it off the lot to try and duplicate.

I had the exact same thing happen with my last vehicle (07 grand Cherokee). Would die at idle, at stops or stop & go traffic I had to shift to N and give it a little gas.
Turned out to be a dirty throttle body, dealer wanted $350 to clean it!! (New OEM ones cost less). I went home, pulled the air intake, used some carb cleaner & a rag to wipe off the dirt ring just inside the throttle body & it never happened again.
I hope yours turns out to be that simple.

I have had a similar problem in my 2015 JKR Hard Rock with only 450 miles on it! It started around 350 miles and would die during acceleration, as well as on the highway. The tach would fall to zero and then kick back in...no warning lights. Today, I was at a railroad crossing and it died completely and the engine light came on! Just had it put on a wrecker and dropped at the dealer. I will let you know what they say in the event it might help.

I've got a 2014 with just under 12,000 miles on it. Mine will chime intermittently and I've noticed recently it's getting more frequent where under acceleration the gage panel will light up and all the gages fall to zero and the jeep falls on its face. And as soon as it dies it cones back to life.
It happened this morning on the interstate at 65mph once i rolled out of the throttle.
Is this what others are experiencing?
I'll be dropping it off Monday morning at the dealer.

I had this issue with 2014 JKUR and it turned out to be that I was hitting the key chain with my knee at stop lights sometimes and the ignition was sensitive and turning off the jeep. Try your keys with only the jeep key in and see if it make a difference.

does it sputter before it shuts down? If not its probably electrical. Get a volt meter and test your battery. It should be putting 12.8 volts when off and near 14 Volts when running. Anything lower then your battery is shot. Get some sand paper and clean your wire and battery terminals too! Make sure that the terminals are super tight too!

Sir,I am having the EXACT stalling issues with my jeep but because it doesn't throw any codes they can't find the issue! They even witnessed the stalling thank god! But still they don't have any idea what is causing it to stall! I've had it to 3 different dealerships!! Have you had any luck in finding what is causing it to stall? Please help I've be going through this for over a year.
Thanks Allen

Bacc1966, My 2006 Charger Police Package Hemi has a similar issue... about once every 3-4 months, the car will stall at a light, stop sign... and sometimes will loose power when accelerating... NO codes stores... starts right up... it may happen a few times in a day.. then be fine for 3-4 months... Doing some research, it seems to be a consensus that the TCM (transmission Control Module) is the issue. On the last occurrence, I finally got a Code... P0700, Lost communication with the TCM.
I still haven't tried swap the TCM... just a little input..

Thank you for the info I'll definitely start researching that as well! I decided to try the crankshaft position sensor first that someone else posted earlier in this thread even though I'm not sure how it could cause these issues. I will let you know if it changes anything!

I have been through this hell. My son purchased a 2013 JK Sport from a Jeep dealer with around 35,000 miles. Two months later it starts stalling when backing up,at stop lights and slowing down to make a turn.

Took it back to the dealer, the warranty was gone at this point. The Jeep would not throw a code. They told us to bring it back when the CEL came on. It never came on.

I told them it was not safe, spoke to GM who got the service manager involved. They kept the Jeep 30 days and finally figured it out. In the end (if memory serves) they replaced a crank shaft position sensor, cam shaft position sensor and spark plugs. They apparently hooked a laptop up to it, drove it until it happened, downloaded the data and sent it to Chrysler. (This is what I was told.)

They also shared the cost and did not charge for all of the diagnostic time.

I had a similar issue on my 07. Ran fine then would just stumble and die while sitting at a light. Never saw a CEL but occasionally would see the red lightning bolt in the center of the cluster. I replaced the PCV and have not had an issue since. Just my .02.
