hid on jk

I just bought a 12 jk rubicon. I had a custom lifted super crew f150 so I'm new to jeep but not to 4+4. I have done alot of research and tried to see a image but can't get an actual look at the rebel hid system. I had hids on my truck, Not retrofit jus the kit. The articles I've read on lights for jk show good results with rebel kit. I'm planning on going with a different brand either ddm (which I've used) or theretrofit hid system but was curious, does the rebel kit have a shield over the bulb to direct light or is it jus a bulb. Hoping to get similar results that I've seen tested out with other members so I'm figuring out which route I have to go. Thanks for any help guys. Glad to be a jk guy now.

Totally agree. If you want HIDs the only correct way to do it is with projectors to control the output. I bought projectors from TheRetrofitSource and installed them into JK housings. Turned out pretty nice but they weren't cheap. Check out how nice the cut off is so that I don't blind cars. The snow pic is with "high beams" or when the high beam shield is down. OP if you're looking for cheap I recommend the trucklite LEDs.

Good ballasts will only increase or maintain the amount of ilumination which is no problem with the HIDs. The challenge is creating a good beam pattern. Reflectors and cheap projectors create a very poor beam pattern. Most of them produce a shallow beam, with a lot of light scatter, artifacts and a mediocre cutoff. In other words poor lighting all around. But the solution is cheap compared to doing it right so more than one owner opts to do this. Read some of the existing threads on this subject.

When it comes to headlamps you get what you pay for.
