Mopar instructions.

There is no need to remove the grill so skip steps 1-3. Start at 4. Use the right screwdriver and make sure to put pressure into the plastic screws as they will strip. Once you turn them 4-5 times, grab them with your fingertips and pull them out.

What Mopar fails to mention is that a 4X6 inch hole must be cut out of the interior of the bumper to clear the mounting of the tow hook portion. This is quite a job by hand, as the plastic is like 3/16 of an inch thick and it is also in the L shaped area of the bumper.

To make the cuts, a heat gun and a new utility knife works, but a saws-all or rotozip works best.

Lastly, you don't have to cut the entire 4x6 area on the top of the bumper to fit the tow hooks. Myself and many others have cut the back half and then moved forward a bit to make sure the fit is nice and tight.

Any questions, feel free to ask...

^ For all that trouble I might just go ahead and get a replacement bumper with some nice D-rings.... LoD, ARB, RR, Warn, Smitty, all come to mind....

Not to mention, it often comes out looking like crap. Check your local Craigslist or eBay and the forums for a take-off Rubicon, or X-S package front bumper. The Sahara bumper has the cutouts, too, but has the silver strip (up to you if you like that).
The nice thing with that bumper is you can add OEM fog lights at the same time- they look great, and do help with the JK's awful OEM lighting- Mark W.

I enjoy tinkering with my vehicles and this took about 2 hours to do by myself. Not hard to do at all and I think it turned out great. There are only two cuts that can be seen so I'm not sure how it looks like crap unless you have no patience and workmanship.

I would love to get a new bumper and probably will at some point but $30 compared to $500 is worth the extra hour of work IMO to have some safe tow points.

Dude- OEM Rubi bumpers have a going rate of around $100, and some people include fog lights for that price. My TOTAL investment between new lights, the bumper, and all the wiring for an OEM-quality job was under $200, and you'd NEVER know it's not factory- Mark W.

Sorry, I was referencing the aftermarket bumpers for $500 which were listed in post #3.

Rubicon bumpers are a great choice, but when I looked, I didn't have much luck. Of those none had the factory lights and none were within 2 states of where I lived. Paying for shipping wouldn't have been wise.

^ Mark is dead-on, as usual!

I will have mine available soon (if you want to buy something from an over zealous rocket scientist --- LOL JK'N!!!) --- I digress....I am upgrading to a XHD setup (winch-mount bumper, ends, bar & skid plate) but still waiting....

If interested, let me know.
