how to replace egr valve 2008 jeep wrangler automatic transmission? My check engine light came on my 08 jk I took over to autozone they did free check and told me it was my EGR valve code P1404 so I'm gonna try to replace it myself I don't feel like being overcharged at the dealer. I know where to find the EGR valve Is there a easy way to get to it with an automatic transmission. I've been reading and seems to be so confusing statements out there between manual transmission and automatic transmissions any help will be appreciated. Can someone point me in the right direction.
I threw this code a few months back and I was ready to tackle it my self much like you are. I did all my research and everything I read said the same thing. It's a major PIA. Apparently everything is easily accessible with the exception of one bolt which no one seems to be able to get to. I was lucky and had an extended warranty so I just paid my deductible. Instead of going to the dealership, I'm sure you could find a reputable shop and have them do it for a fraction of the quoted price the dealer gives you. I'm all about DIY but I like to pick and choose my battles lol.
All done the job was a pain in the butt! getting around the transmission dip stick tube was a mission. But I got it done running good the error code went away!!
Where did you order a new valve from? Do you have a website or part number? my light came on a few months ago and im just now getting around to replacing it.

Ok. Just finished replacing mine. It sucks. But, with a little patience, it's not THAT bad!!! For the "hidden bolt", I used the closed end of a 10mm wrench. Little tight, but works! You HAVE TO, HAVE TO, HAVE TO, remove psgr. Wheel! No room to work with it on! I got the new valve, both gaskets included from advance auto parts store, for 89 bucks, plus tax. Total time invested, about 3 hours/ 6 beers.
