Trying to figure out what size new front springs to get, as part of this, I need to know how much true lift I have now. And for that, I need to know one dimension, would you be willing to accurately measure the distance from the ground to the bottom of the front Dana 44 diff at its lowest point? Rubi must have the stock 17 rims and stock tires it came with for the number to be useful.

Jeep has to be on a very level spot, and on concrete. I went to a dealer today and measured 3 of them, and they varied by more than a 1/2 inch, so obviously slight unevenness in the asphalt screws up a good measurement.

Maybe Jeep already publishes this number, since it is the low point in the front?

thanks? :worthy:

The variables are
- tires and wheels (which is why I want someone with stock rubi tires and wheels)
- diff (Rubi's all have the D44)
- the ground (which is why I'd like it done on smooth level concrete.

If someone does that, and I measure my diff, the difference is a measure of how much higher my axle and diff are because of the larger tires. That in itself is an nice to know fact.

Turns out, it will also help me determine how badly my springs are sagging from armor and winch.

Jeep website says that a 2014 model has 10 inches of ground clearance.

I ran 34 pounds in my factory BFG MTs when I had them on my 2dr, but factory specs say 40+. That could cause a height difference. Those also had 23,000 miles on them, which could cause another height difference.

Discount tire states that BFG MT KMs 255/75/17 have a diameter of 32.06 and a 285/75/16 has a diameter of 32.83 which makes a difference of .77 inches. Those dimensions should tell you how much height you gained from your tires.

As I stated before, you need to measure the distance between your spring perches. This will tell you how much your SPRINGS sagged when you added armor. I don't believe your tires will sag when you add armor. If they did, I would think adding a little more air should perk them right up!

I'd really rather debate 308 vs 30.06, or maybe turbo vs supercharger, or Rep vs Dem. I am just hoping someone with a stock rubi sitting in their concrete garage would stick a tape between the diff and the floor. It takes a lot less time then we have spent typing!

you can change the ground clearance under the differentials by adding or taking away air in your tires or new tires vs worn tires.
