Instrument Cluster ---- FAIL

I own a 2007 Jeep Wrangler and currently only have about 12,xxx miles on it. Friday, went to drive my Jeep, and here is what happened:
Headlights, NO foglights
Radio-stereo, NO A/C
NO gauges
NO speedometer/tripometer
NO turn signals
NO wipers
I am an experienced mechanic, but noone could figure this out. Took it too a few shops, final had to resort to taking it to dealership. Warranty expired July 25th, 2010 and three weeks later it is in the shop. Was told it was the entire instrument cluster computer $575! In the process of dealing with Chrysler to see if they'll assist me, seeing as my Jeep isn't that old and warranty only expired from time, just three weeks ago. Wish me luck.

Well, my problem is when they ask water has gotten into the interior. I think to myself, of all the vehicles in the world, a Jeep Wrangler should be able to withstand a few minutes of heavy rain with the top off. Come on now, it is a Jeep. So, how the hell does the instrument cluster short-out after only 12,xxx miles. Anyways, of course it couldn't have been a cheap little fuse or anything.

That sucks! You know, you'd think that since it's a Jeep and they charge for them like they are something special, that they would at least conformal coat all the PCBs and make all interconnects with weatherproof connectors. motorcycles take more into consideration on design than Jeep engineers!

did you check your battery, low battery can cause electrical gremlins that make computers act weird.

Checked my battery, and did the computer reset (15 minute wait) and that solved nothing. Initially dealer said it was fixed after flashing the computer. However, went to pick it up, same ghetto problem. Should find out something today.

I am happy to announce that Chrysler Customer Assistance Center actually called me back this afternoon. They are willing to reimburse me for HALF the cost of the work for the Instrument Cluster. So, I will head to the dealership, pick up my Jeep and pay $575. Then, send the invoice and a letter (with a reference #), to Chrysler and they will send me a check for half! My faith has been restored in 'good people' and 'good customer service.'

Thanks guys!

You would expect that from some ghetto ride, but not a Jeep Wrangler. They told me the computer module for the Instrument Cluster shorted-out. Hmmm, of all the vehicles in the world that should be able to withstand some weather and some water; should be the Wrangler. Oh well, should pick it up today! I missed my Jeep!

I have always had two vehicles. My daily driver is my Mustang GT Convertible...and I save my Jeep for the weekend!
