You can reprogram it by following these weird steps.
-DO NOT START THE JEEP.
-Get in.
-Buckle-up
-turn the key to ACC on. Where everything starts chiming and beeping. My Jeep has an orchestra of sounds.
-Once the seatbelt dummy light goes out, unbuckle and buckle 3 or more times. (go for broke and do it about 5 or 6 times).
-turn off and remove the key.
This should be all you have to do to get it to stop. I did this a while back and love it when I go off-roading.
I love that I can shut it off (mine IS off), and I don't drive around without a seatbelt....but I will often put my seat belt on AFTER I back out of the driveway and start to move down the street. I will also often unhook myself belt right before I turn into my driveway. That is all fine and dandy in the Jeep...but I am reminded of how annoying the chime is when I do the same thing in my wife's RAV4.

Does this have to be done each time you drive or just once and it's good to go? I tried this once when I first got the jeep and it worked until I shut the key off then the next time I got into the jeep it was dinging again so I never re-tried it....mine is a 2011 sport
My wife has a '14 Cherokee Trailhawk and it'll ding nonstop if the seatbelt isn't fastened. If driver is buckled and passenger not, same nonstop dinging. Got very annoying very quick.
My wife's delivery van...I mean Scion Xb chimes. You have to go to the dealer to get it shut off and I've heard some dealers won't do it. It also has the passenger seat airbag sensor that also is rigged to the seat belt dinger. If someone gets out, like when we drop the kids at school, it's hit and miss if the sensor will work. Sometimes it will but others you have to stop and put the car in park and still others you have to turn the car off.
It also locks the doors as soon as you put the car in gear, instead of at like 15 mph, if you try to lock the doors with one open, say as the passengers are getting out, it beeps until they shut the door. It's got all kinds of idiot features. We've come to call it the nanny car. Worst part, unlike the Jeep, you can't change any of it yourself.
Commenting, so I can come back to this - I'll completely forget otherwise! Thanks, y'all
