My jeep pulls left and its driving me crazy.
I have tried:
1.removing the steering stabilizer
2.checked and readjusted the toe-in
3.centered the front axle
4.moved the front axle slightly to passenger side
5.loosened all front bolts and nuts assoc. with the lift and re torqued
This is over an 6 month period with several test drives after each different item was worked on.
Really no change with anything the I have done so far.
Increasing the toe-in may have helped a little but not much.
I am willing to try anything.
Looking for ideas.
Also I have 2 JK unlimiteds and my 09 is straight as an arrow and my 13 pulls left.
09 is a Rubicon.
13 is a sport S with trac lok.
With what you have written it sounds like it is a tire issue. Check tire pressures in all 4 tires and make sure they are the same. Also check wheel bearings if one is bad it can cause jeep to pull.
I had this issue in my Subaru. I put on a set of 'lightly' used tired. Ended up with my 2 left tires being more worn than the right, and it 'pushed' to the left.
Drove me crazy until I realized what happened.
Put the worn tires on the rear end arbitrarily and the push disappeared.
Was shocked as the difference was minimal. But under hard acceleration it was noticeable.
Caster or tire. Swap front tires side to side to see if it is the tire layup. Check castor side to side is the same. The factory spec is for more caster on the right than left, but I find even is better.
You have without question radial pull from the tires you are running. Which tires you have on? My trail grapplers pull left and before this I had mtrs and they pulled right
Castor is set by the AEV drop brackets for my AEV 2.5" lift.
Tires are Goodyear Duratracs same as my other JK that does not pull.
Alignment numbers. Don't have any. I have set the toe, my steering wheel I straightened,
Castor is set by drop down brackets.
What is the alignment shop going to do but provide numbers and collect $300?
Is there some other adjustment that they can make?
More than willing to take it to an alignment shop if they can make changes I can't.
But I have not read one report of the many "pulling left stories" that an alignment shop was able to fix.
I don't believe it is my tires but would be willing to swap wheels/tires from jeep to jeep to verify.
I rotate my tires every 5000miles including the spare. Never have noticed a change of any kind after rotating.
That being said I am grateful for each and every response. Please keep the suggestions coming.
Is it possible that it could be the power steering pump? Heard this theory somewhere else.
Alignment checks everywhere I go is totally free, I went 4 times. My absolute tiny adjustment on the drag link tripled my toe(1/4 turn)...
An alignment shop can't do anything you can't do... except use a super expensive laser equipped piece of machinery to give you your exact Castor and Toe.... So you can adjust it correctly...
Try this logic: If caster is uneven side to side then it is a known outcome that the vehicle will pull to the side with the highest caster. You have a pull to one side.
So what is the caster? If you don't know, why are you ignoring the elephant?
My castor is set by factory upper and lower control arms and AEV drop down brackets.
NOT adjustable.
If I wasn't clear before I have played with different toe settings using the DIY method here.
It really hasn't impacted the pull left. I started with increasing toe in. Maybe I will try decreasing or even toe out slightly.
Nothing is free where I live unless you do it yourself.
Not opposed to letting some hack work on my jeep with expensive equipment and glad to pay them if I believed they could do something that I can not do myself.
Not really interested in paying for a sheet of paper with some numbers on it.
I will do this as a last resort if I can not cure this myself.
I do appreciate the ideas.
Going to check wheel bearings and brake drag.
Tires, tire pressure, tire rotation all checked double checked, and rechecked.
This is a pretty common problem with jeep JK's that have lifts and some that don't.
Just google "jeep pulls left" and you will see it is a pretty common problem.
Does anyone think it could be the power steering pump?
Thrust angle! I didn't know there was an adjustment on the rear?
This however is something that I need to have looked at!!
My pull is absolutely more noticeable under acceleration and higher speed.
At steady throttle less than 35 my jeep goes straight at higher speeds or under acceleration (all other conditions identical) it pulls left.
If you use drop brackets, is there really much adjustment in terms of alignment? Does the drag link really adjust anything more than centering the steering wheel?
My jeep has a slight right pull when at higher speeds, lower speeds it's pretty much a non issue. I've attributed it to road crown but with a left pull I can't find much of an explanation for that.
Did you check rear calipers? The slightest drag can cause this. Try checking rotor temps with a laser gun.
