Question JK E-Brake Lever Removal

I am taking out the center console for my lining project (using the raptor line). I unbolted the lever for the parking brake thinking that I could remove it that way. The lever coiled back to the housing for the two cables that run through the body and I don't have the slack that I need to unhook the cables. Has any one else delt with the parking brake lever? Or do I have to release the cable back at the brakes in order to get slack?
