JK is Awesome On Snowy Roads

Finally some cold weather! I have now had a chance to run my 2013 JKU Sport on snow and ice. It is completely stock, hard topped and rides on the original Wrangler SRA tires.

It seems the soft carassed siped tires, the compliant suspension, the brake locking differentials, plenty of rear axle weight, anti-lock brakes, traction control, and stability control programming work really well. Auto trans almost makes getting going seem too easy. Slap shifter allows great control with minimal effort once under way.

I have been commuting using 2WD exclusively just to test grip and stability. It has been great. I found an open parking lot to slide around in a couple of mornings before work. Long story short, the last test I did tonight was to back up a pretty steep service road, covered in light snow and packed ice... In 2WD. No problem. So I stopped completely and restarted a few times while on the hill, no problem.

Really something. I am impressed.

My 2013 has been carving up the snow and ice covered roads here in Oklahoma, but I wish it would warm up and melt this crap away! I would much rather be driving on the beach somewhere.

Mine fairs well too. Even now with 35" mud tires and lift it's fine. As long as the driver knows what they're doing. ESP really helps stop spin outs too

I have been enjoying the snow as well, although other drivers are a bit scary here. We had the 'storm' roll in last Thursday and they have canceled school since - I can't believe they called school off for tomorrow as well! The highways are pretty clear, the side streets vary - some are snow packed into ice now. It's been fun testing traction control out, I did find that even turning it 'off' with the dash button doesn't turn much off on these new vehicles. With the kids off school again tomorrow, and me off work again, we are going sledding again.
