Leaky Jeep

Let me start by saying that I love my jeep. (2014 Dune JKU) It has now been in the shop 8 times for the same issue, water leaks. They have literally replaced every door seal and every seal around the freedom tops. The have also laid the front windshield down and replaced all of the seals around it too. They called this afternoon and said that it is still leaking and they have contacted an engineer with Jeep and they are bringing a crew in to look at it. Very frustrated at this point. They have even replaced all of the plugs and retainers in the firewall and around kick panels and it still keeps leaking. I have now been in a loaner vehicle (minivan!!!!) for 3 weeks this time. Not sure what to do at this point. Just wait to see what the engineering crew has to say and the figure it out from there. Has anyone else experienced this?

I feel your pain. Mine is in for just the second time (and has been there two days so far). No one has offered me a loaner yet, but I doubt I would be as patient as you have been even if they had. I live a significant distance from the dealership. To say this is inconvenient for me would be a massive understatement.

For sure look into the lemon laws, try a fresh unit.

But, I wonder how they are investigating this leak. Seems like they are just throwing parts/service at it without evaluating the source of the leak.

They must be testing it somehow in order to report back to you that it is still leaking.

What is the nature of the leak?

I can't imagine a leak that they have not been able to differentiate from the door seals, freedom top seals, windshield seals and what ever else they have tried.

I feel your pain, mine was in for water leaks 5 or 6 times. I took it upon myself to figure out where the leak was coming from (I was getting water at the bottom of the driver's side door sill)

I readjusted the top a few times, even after getting it home from the dealership after leaks were fixed because of the tops are not put on exactly right water will get in.

I also adjusted the door catches so the doors closed flush with the body.

Then after a random day of freezing rain It turns out the water was skipping the seal where the wind shield hinge and the body meet. The little piece of foam that goes behind the black rubber gets compressed and crushed. So the dealer added a second layer of foam and all is fixed.

Note this was for the hard top, soft top could be a hole other animal

Thanks for all the comments and yeah that's what I told them yesterday if I wanted a minivan I would have bought one. Some other things they have tried are adjusting the doors, tweaking the door frame, new front freedom tops, injecting some of the bulb seals with some type of flexible filler to help seal (based on previous engineers recommendations). The service manager told me yesterday they are at a loss on what to do next, so they are just waiting on the next recommendation from the engineering crew. The way they are testing it is they have 4 sprinklers running on it from different angles. The last they said was that all the leaks are now stopped except at the rear of the passenger front door. They said that it is not leaking while the sprinklers are spraying, but when they turn them off it starts trickling in. Make sense of that. Going to give them until Monday to see if they fix it then I am contacting a lemon lawyer i guess.

Update to my issue.
Called Chrysler Customer Service and they started the buy back process and said it would be finalized within 5 to 7 days. After 4 days, I went to my dealership just to get some information on what to expect in a buy back. The sales manager came out and talked with us for a long time and was very helpful. The sales manager said there a few ways we could handle this. One of which is just to let them (the dealership) handle it. They said that being we have been very patient and understanding (9 times total in for service same issue) they are willing to trade me straight across for a comparable jeep and give me $2000 to boot. Being there are no more new '14's on the lot the are giving me a '15 exactly like my '14 except red not dune. They are a great dealership and I will most definitely be going back to them for future purchases.
