License Plate screws.....

Ok this is going to sound like a very dumb question. But does anyone know what kind of screws are used to put License Plates on a new JK?

I have my brand new JK, and the dealer mailed me my plates, I go to put them on and there are no screws. I could go get some from the dealer, but that's an hour drive whereas the local hardware store is down the street...

Looking for size, thread Pitch etc...

Thanks

I just used self tapping sheet metal screws. Don't remember the exact size, just whatever fit in the hole...Probably 1/4"? They hold in the plastic just fine

I would check in the center consul or glove box that is where I have found them in the past.

Where are you located?
If local, stop by and I'll give you the originals off of mine. PM me if interested.

#12 screw x 3/4" worked on the rear holder. Used a #14 for one that wouldn't hold in the front bumper. Also get them in Stainless for a couple bucks more, and reduce the rusting you normally get

Too cold to check mine but contact the dealer to mail the correct screws for the rear holder because you don't want the wrong length screw

Please correct me if I am wrong (no JK yet), but aren't they a standard size? I used locking ones (uses a special allen screw) for my rear plate on My Expedition. Picked them up at Wal-Mart.

All Chrysler products use these:

You can also use these:

If you show these photos to the AutoZone person, s/he will know exactly which ones they are.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone!!!! I went to my local hardware store to get the screws and they actually were out of what I needed (grr) they told me they would have them in a day or so.

On the way home, I decided to stop into a different Jeep dealer (not the one I bought the car from) to see how expensive they would be, the parts guy told me he could get me a price but I should go speak to the sales people first... I was shocked when the sales guy on the floor, fully knowing I didn't buy it from them went back to his service bay and just gave me the screws I needed..(No charge) he even loaned me a screwdriver so I could put the plates on and be legal.....

Shocked to see a dealer that understands customer service....

Totally shocked!

Seems to me you bought from the wrong dealer to begin with.

Nah, they would have given me the screws, but I didn't want to drive up there (it's an hour drive) they would have mailed them to me but I needed them right away....
