Locker Question

What rear locker would be the same as the D44 Rubicon Tru Trac? What I mean is the function. Example Eaton/Detroit/Ox/etc.

The Rubicon locker isn't a Tru Trac. Tru Trac is a limited slip diff made by Detroit. The one most like the Rubi selectable electronic locker is the Eaton E-Locker.

The trutrac is not a locker, it is a LSD. Rubicons come stock with eaton lockers ( selectable ) they are also different from the aftermarket E Lockers

Incorrect also. As far as I know stock Rubicon lockers in the JK were/are made by an overseas company called GKN Driveline or something like that. Unless it changed recently to Eaton, I don't think they are.

Correct. The locker is not an Eaton unit (unless they changed recently and I missed it) but they are similar. It's either an open differential or it's fully locked depending on the switch in the cabin.

I had the Lunchbox style ones on my old Lj, but hated it because in the snow last season it was pulling me all over the road. I like the electronic one cause I can control it when I really need it.

I thought the D44 was a geared LSD along with a E locker all in the same case. At least thats what my TJ was and I think my JK is the same.

What about the ARB air lockers? I've heard good things about them. Are they better than the electronic lockers?

ARB lockers are great. They aren't stronger just different ways of actuation (air vs. electronic). For the D44 this used to be true but Eaton updated the D44 E-Locker and it is as strong as it should be. With the ARB though you have to factor in on board air into the cost of the system.

Yeah, I would probably go with the air lockers, because then I'd also have an onboard compressed air supply for tire inflation, air horn, etc.

this is debatable but pretty correct. get your hands on an ARB and you will understand why they are $1000-$1200.

ARB has a test machine that they use to compare their lockers to other brands. they actually dont know what the breaking torque on their 60 (for example) locker is, no shaft has been able to stand up to the torque and shears right off.

now I am in no way saying that eaton's E-Locker is inferior, I have never even seen one, but I will never have to pull my ARB.

here is a fun video
