FWIW. getting ready for my 1st. service so I made sure I had the tools I needed.
Most here say 19mm for factory lug nuts. Not what I saw. 19 12pt. was very loose,18 was too small but, my 3/4 6 point is perfect!
The outer metal shell of the lug tends to distort under torque with a 12pt. A 19mm 6pt is the only tool to use. Though technically the hair smaller 3/4 will fit.
I used to keep a deep 3/4" socket on a 1/2" pull bar with a 4" extension in my vehicles until I had it slip on my JKU. Fortunately I had spare lug nuts from the McCard locking lugs. I then purchased a 19mm and keep in on the pull bar. I need one more for the TJ.
Short sockets are for bolt heads and nuts without a lot of thread exposed. Always use a deep socket for lug nuts.
Also, I actually broke an extension earlier this year using a 3/4" drive on lugs that were torqued to 100 ft lbs. Maybe it was just a cheap extension, but I always torque to 95 and use my thin wall deep impact sockets now.
I was using a 19 mm for my last 4 tire rotations, the last one i did one of lug nuts lost is shell and I had to use extreme force to get it out. A neighbor of mine told me to try the 3/4 and i finished my rotation with the 3/4 socket and i found the fit a lot better... just my experience...
Get these from Gear Wrench. They're impact grade, thin wall and have wheel protector sleeves to prevent scratches. This compact kit and a nice breaker bar makes you a really good guy when you stop to help someone on the side of the road.
This is a nice ratcheting breaker bar by Titan. It has 24t so it can take the torque and had a center position ratchet lock out to use when you're breaking the nuts free.
