New ball joints on a 2012 2dr JK

I need to change my OEM ball joints but I dont know which brand to choose, read Teraflex´s ball joints wont fit on a ´12 JK without grinding the axle shaft which I do not want to do, and Dynatracs are too expensive, thinking about Synergy, G2, Alloy USA, or maybe Moog.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

I'm in the same boat. I'd love to go with Rare Parts as they seem to be the best of the best, but $600+ for the balljoints seems pretty steep, no matter how good they are. Same with Dynatracs. $400+ for balljoints. Ugh.

I'm looking for the best balljoint for under $250-ish. That leaves Synergy (heard about some "bad batch" issues a while ago), Alloy, Teraflex and... ???

To the OP: I've seen where Teraflex has redesigned their offering so you don't have to grind anything anymore.

I was going to spend a bunch of $ on the Synergy or Teraflex ball joints but the more I think about I am really leaning toward using the Mevotech TTX ball joint.

$27 ea for the uppers and $47 ea for the lowers from Rock Auto. If the stock ones with the plastic insert made it 75k miles the TTX should last at least that long. Plus they have a limited lifetime warranty where Synergy is 1 year, Alloy is 5 years and Teraflex is lifetime.


I'll use the $50 saved toward a new tie rod and drag link.

I went with Alloy USA. Seem good so far overall. Supposedly they are a clone/copy of the synergy.

However the one complaint I have is the low profile grease zerk on the lower. Almost impossible to get grease in it, especially after the axle shaft is reinstalled. I got some grease in but not nearly enough, so will have to pull axle, reinstall traditional grease zerk, fill with grease, put low profile back in(traditional style won't clear U-joint) and reinstall axle. Lots of work for one grease fitting.

Heads up on that, I just did the Alloy BJs 2 weeks ago and we tried to swap in a traditional zerk and a 90* zerk, and neither fits when installed. You just have to find a needle zerk grease gun I believe. If you find one, please let me know where!

I went with the TF ones, not because i think they're best or the worst, but because the shop that did the install sell those and if i get any issues, they will warranty the job.
I grease mine every 5k miles or so, piece of cake to grease, assuming you have the fitting for the lower BJ's, i do the lowers with a grease fitting i bought from Oreillys for like $5 or so, and the uppers are just a standard zerk, zero issues so far with the BJ's, they must have around 15k miles or so already.

Spicer also makes HD ball joints. Uppers have a grease fitting but lowers do not. I was going to use the HD Spicers on a ProRock build, but then Northridge sent me an e-mail about free Dynatrac Prosteers with the purchase of a ProRock 44. Couldn't pass that up.

You think the Dynatracs are expensive but I'm on my 3rd set of Synergy ball joints in a year and a half. Although, I mainly just use it for off road. If I didn't do it myself, that would add up to probably $1200 with labor.

Once this set fails, I'll go Dynatracs to test those...

Did anybody here who owned Synergy joints prior have issues with different joints being loose?
Ive heard the Synergy's are bigger and knurled which can cause the hole to be bigger. The only joint that seems to work, knurled Dynatrac's but those have to be requested.

I grease the TF lower BJ's with this, no issues, just a little pressure against the hole, and pump away.

Has nothing to do with greasing. Has to do with the length of the stud on the upper ball joint.

The 2012+ JKs have a larger stub shaft (the part from the axle u-joint to the hub) and the forging seam touches the ball joint stud. This is NO BIG DEAL. You just grid down that little seam. I have RCV shafts, so it's a non-issue for my 2014.

Tereflex HD Ball joints with or without kurling?

I just ordered tereflex HD ball joints without kurling, but they are on back order for 60 days. Does kurling or without kurling matter which ones i use to replace stock ball joints on a 2012? they have kurling in stock i would rather not wait 60 days
