New cylinder heads and water pump

Bought a 2013 JK Wrangler Unlimited brand new last year and 9k miles later I started hearing the ticking noise and the squeaking noise. Matched the sounds up with a couple of videos on you tube and they both gave the red flag for new cylinder heads and water pump. Who else has come across this issue?

Check for sand in the overflow bottle. Water pump will intermittantly squeak as a sign.

Was this confirmed by the dealer? 2013 needing both cylinder heads? Early build date? A fluke bad right head?

Guys chill out. My husband and I are mechanics that work on jeeps everyday. I'm positive that they are the issues. Damn, quick to jump the gun and call someone a fool aren't we?

I thought the head issue was fixed and only with the 12 my ?
I could be wrong. I'm thinking that's where everybody else is too.

Yes. Although I did hear of a few early 2013's that had the bad left head, both heads, that's news to me.

Yes. I've read up on that as well but it's definitely the cylinder heads. I have the extended warranty on mine and when I told the mechanic he said that it's a very common issue along with the water pump.

There were some early 13's with the problem, add yours to the list. Honestly if they're replacing both heads I'd be a happy camper. Good luck, keep us posted.

A Chrysler tech confirmed the heads and water pump were bad? Did they schedule an appointment for the repair work?

Had the water pump replaced on my 'early 13' JKUR about 4 months ago. 16,000 miles on odometer. The engine made an intermittent sound similar to a belt tensioner going bad for a long time. Dealer couldn't diagnose (3 trips) until the sound became continuous.

I'll be listening for issues with the heads now.

Did you hear ticking (like lifter noise) when cold starting?

Not the lifters. Replacing the cylinder heads fixes the issue. I'll drive it all day and hear ticking coming from the engine. Especially on the passenger side. It's not a small sound to listen to. I could be on the back of the truck and hear it loud and clear.

Basically, these are noises that I didn't hear when I got the truck with only 5 miles on the odometer. When I get my truck back next week I'll give you an update.

Was it an early build 2013? When did you take title to it? I believe there were some early 2013's that might have had an AB head. But who knows......Good luck, I'd be interested in an update when you get it back.

I'm not saying they went bad at the same time. There was slight ticking at first and now it's more pronounced. A lot of you guys jump on this just to make one look like a fool huh? If you don't have the issue, don't comment.

Whenever you start a Thread, their is always a chance that some comment will come back to you, that is not of your liking, or understanding.
My comment was basically saying, from past experience, that both heads needing changing is not the normal, but I didn't say that it can't happen, because I'm sure that it has to some in the past, (but it's not the norm)! The odds of both heads failing at the same time, or close to the same time is not very likely! It's unusual, what don't you understand about that?

That is why you have warranty, so just go get it repaired.

I'm sorry if you feel foolish, but that is your problem and not mine!

And as I've stated before, I'm an experienced mechanic and I have an extended warranty. No need to be, confusedconfused

May I ask what the build date is in the door sticker? Could explain a lot. I am sure there are now some nervous 2013 owners wondering what is next!
