New jeep....clicking engine normal?

Hello,

Picked up my first jeep last week! Was loving everything about it, and then, I started hearing a clicking sound...(short video of motor here Jeep 2012 - 3.6L penestar cylinder head - YouTube )

It seems to be clicking at a lower speed than some of the other 3.6 Pentastar engine videos online. I was hoping someone might be able to confirm I have the common head issue or something else?

Jeep has 36K miles.

Thanks in advance!

Uh oh. I am no expert but I have heard that your motor has had some issues. Try heavier weight oil?

Before you panic you do get a slight clicking sound from the fuel injectors. That might be all that it is. Anything worse, you might need a head replacement.

I have the PS louver so I can really hear the ticking. I'm pretty sure it's the injectors.

I hate telling anyone to roll into the dealer shop but in this case play it safe and either eliminate the possibility of the Penstastar head problem or get the paperwork started to replace it. Best of Luck!

Some of the 3.6 engines make a ticking sound at start up, for a couple of seconds. This seems to be normal for some, but others don't, as mine does not. But when I was road testing new 2012s and 2013s before purchasing mine, I did hear a tick on some of them at start up.

I never heard a clicking sound at lower speeds after start up, in any of them, that I test drove.
Since you are having this issue ongoing, then I would definitely take it into a Dealer and have them check it out.......

Thank you for the input thus far...got jeep in today

Went to dealer today. Lucky for me they scheduled me on a day that no mechanics were in. The head oil change technician said it sounded normal to him and they were about to turn me back when I suggested we pull up another Jeep next to mine and listen to the two of them at which point they agreed to log the jeep as a warranty claim (had 32 miles left on the bumper-to-bumper).

Will let you know what they say!

Here is an updated video I shot if anyone cares to take another look (this one shows the clicking sound increases proportional to rev speed: )

Thanks again for the support.

Hit up the dealer for an extended warranty for free too. Many people have gotten them after issues like this, and you did just buy the Jeep.

Wow. Sounds identical, thanks for sharing.

Did you have an engine light on at all when you had "the tick?"

Is your Wrangler a 2012? I'm assuming it is, but I didn't see you post the year. Thanks.

After thorough inspection by dealer and another mechanic, they both agreed it was the "noisy" injectors.

Thanks everyone.

Mine now has about 12,000 miles on it. I have a tick in mine that is very minimal, and has been there from day one. Seems to be normal!
