Newbie HOTOIL light. Grrrrr

Hi there,
Shelley from Ontario...
Just picked up my JK Wrangler Unlimited (Sahara, auto) on Wednesday. I must say I am loving this vehicle!!
HOWEVER, I went for a very sedate drive today...some gravel roads with 15-20degree grade, no off roading, speed <80km outside temp 12C (coooool) when "DING DING"....the chime came on twice without any warning lights flashing until the 3rd time, when the HOTOIL came on!! Sounded like she was going to blow! I followed the instruction manual and no issues on the very slow ride home...

So I've been zipping around on the forum and it seems I need a MOPAR tranny cooler....This seems very odd, given the driving I was doing was very low key---I wasn't even in 4WD!!

Does this seem right, or do I have a lemon...

Any advice, words of wisdom would be helpful

Thanks guys!

Definitely get a tranny cooler. And when driving slow like that manually downshift it into 1st or 2nd. It will overheat from wanting to be in 3rd+ gear.

Actually you were going around 50-55mph? Too much for 1st or 2nd then. But turn O/D off. I had that light come on leaving it in drive but it was in the mountains driving less than 20mph.

You have a transmission cooler. Since you've only had it a few days and there's an issue, I would take it in and let them check it.

What was your rpm? If it were too low you can have this problem. If below 1800 I would have bumped the shifter and went down a gear. Are you running stock tires?

Check the transmission fluid level, then do above.

Lemon

Don't buy anything for the stupid Jeep. Is there something you are not telling us. Like maybe you were riding brake when driving or emergency brake was on.

That is a Lemon or a piece of Junk. You should not have engine problems with a new car until it gets about 8 years old.

Can you do it again and get a video of this.

Update re: HOTOIL LIGHT

So, the vehicle was hooked up to the diagnostics computer and it had a ton of error reports. After 5 days in the shop, they did not have a clue as to what was wrong (they were even on the tech support with Chrysler) to no avail....

The dealer did what a good dealer does----they gave me a brand new Jeep---instead of red, I have the blue...but everything else the same.

Strange....but a good outcome in the end.

...to answer your questions..

Wasn't doing any crazy off road, or riding the brake. This was after run of the mill gravel road up and down stuff..15* grade, max....max speed 30km/hr

Couldn't reproduce it after...and either could the dealer.

That is good dealer customer service! Glad you got a replacement. I would make the same trip and keep a close eye on the temps.
